Channel 9 coverage

Postby Booney » Wed May 10, 2006 1:53 pm

What do people think of CH9 and their decision to play the whole Port game on half hour delay,(when those who care enough should be at Footy Park anyway) and then show the Crows game, which will be delayed by over an hour.

More so,WTF was the AFL doing when they scheduled this?

Problem starts with the AFL no doubt about that ... Gets further out of hand with Channel 9's decision, why would you defer a game interstate over a local match which a team's supporters can actually get to?

Doesn't fuss me personally, but the idea doesn't really seem to make much sense for mine.

The coverage of AFL is seomthing that drives me crazy especially over here in Ceduna:

We get 4 games a week which is fair enough but only two are live.
Friday night starts at 8:45 with the Rugby on first but we have to put up with the pre-game garbage as well.
Saturday afternoon live, which is good.
Saturday night, starts at 8:30 which is makes me angry, they programe crap shows before it and it finishes late.
Sunday afternoon we get the 12:30 match, which is good.

When I lived in Adelaide channel 7 in their last year of rights were at least playing the Friday night game at 7:30, why wouldn't 9 put it on earlier?? Im sure it would be a ratings winner.

Yep one of the major reasons why I left the NT and moved to Victoria was so I could watch more footy.

Have to watch a retarded sport like Rugby League, all the crap RL shows on Thursday night and Sunday am, and then miss the 2nd game on the Sunday...It wsa no better in Darwin. Once they switched the to showing the league first in Darwin on a friday night the writing was on te wall in HUGE ******* letters, Get the truck out of here.....

Up unto three years ago we used to get the SANFL match of the day on the ABC, for the last two years we got to watch NT A grade Rugby Union

Don't even get me started on the radio coverage, NO Coodabeens FFS!!

Oh the best of all, from where I am here in the Wimmera, it is only a four hour drive to the magnificent Bay oval to watch SANFL footy

Very easy decision to make to leave, do yourself a favour Brad get Austar, for me it was an essential to keep me sane up there.

I know the NT is a small market but it epitimises why Channel Eddie have lost the rights when they so heavily favour the League.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yes im considering Austar my only question is though they want you to sign up for two years? But will Fox Footy still be covering AFL in the new TV rights deal?

If 7 and 10 have the AFL tv rights and 9 has the thugby, then you might be alright. As theorectically they should be in competition with each other then.

Of course the AFL programed the matches wrong, but they won't do anything about it. So I believe that C9 should have the first half of the Port game, then go to the Adelaide game live, then show the rest of the Port game. There's more Adelaide fans then Port. I thought that it's a no brainer.

It appears as though CH9 are doing a phone poll to decide which format they will use on Sunday for the telecast.Check out the news at 6 tonight,it should be a ratings boonanza1

The ABC now again shows the SANFL match of the week. This week it was Norf vs Port and which was a good match to watch. When 9 had the AFL exclusively it was bad. They tried to cater for botrh NRL and footy and as time went on gradually relegated footy to the back- burner. They show both footy shows but a few years ago changed the NRL one to first - so the AFL will start about 11pm. When they did that I stopped watching the Footy Show and started burning Eddy effigies. 7 does a lot better sports coverage in my view.
We used to be good :-(

Didn't mind the snippets of Zep's 'Song Remains the Same' though at one of the quarter breaks. Amazing where the Zep resurfaces these days...
