Best Victorian Team

Postby LondonDog » Tue Jun 13, 2006 2:07 am

Hey after this weekend's results the title of the "Best Team in Victoria" is debatable at the moment. Collingwood lose, St Kilda and Melbourne win in upsets, Geelong back in the winners books, and the WB sitting pretty in 5th. (I ignore Hawthorn, Kangaroo, Essendon, Carlton and Richmond supporters in this topic - sorry)

I personally think that it's neck and neck for Collingwood and Melbourne ... with the Dees taking the cake after this weekends game.

Still not as good as Sydney, WC and Adelaide ... but what do you guys think?

If the Power Rankings (Footysa) were being done on the Vic based clubs, I agree that Melbourne would probably be leading. Collingwood second, St Kilda & Richmond a distant 3rd, the rest forgettable.

Adeladie, Sydney and West Coast were all poor on the weekend so summing up who is where in 2006 is perhaps best left to a little later in the season. West Coast sans Judd have pulled off two huge comebacks against bottom six sides...to me, this side is not a premiership one. Adelaide too don't inspire and the Swans have been a bit shaky in the last couple of matches also. Having said that, the Swines are my bet for this year's flag. However, the eight might just be settled. Richmond have a tough run coming up and could be out of business by the end of it and the Lions, Port and Geelong might come up a game or two short in the end. The best Victorian side?? Collingwood, even though they had a shit one yesterday.

Collingwood are without a doubt the best Victorian based unit.Melbourne are close behind but I think Daniher did a job on Malthouse yesterday and it is not too often that that occurs.Malthouse,as he has shown in the past tends to counter an opposition tactics fairly well the next time they face off, which will make for a quality encounter with the Cows in a few weeks.

So,Collingwood,in front of Melbourne, and not much else to speak of.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

I thought the crows grounded out a tough win on Saturday night as the conditions were completely shite !!! They have also dealt Carlton and Essendon a couple of touch ups as well in the weeks prior - thats what a top side should do belt the bottom sides.

For what its worth Collingwood for me look like they can give it a shake.

Melbourne are having a purple patch at the moment but as many dees supporters know they can lose 8 in a row just as easy - the jury is still out for me on them.

Geelong are havin the opposite to Melbourne and I think if they get a run goin might just fall in to the 8.

Bulldogs and Freo to maybe drop out of the 8 !!!

Yeah, fair cop that Blue Boy. A bit harsh on the Cows maybe as Brisbane have been a bit steadier in recent weeks.

So far this year I would say the Dees, looking quite the contender to grab a premiership upset. Might even put some money on them.

Just so happens that not long after I posted this topic... http://www.afl.com.au have chosen a very similar topic in their polls!!!

... and in their polls Melbourne seems to be the general result.

Interesting to see whether they will bounce back in another blockbuster against Sydney this coming round. I don't think they will personally...

the Dee's have these runs every few years before finally falling on their sword, for me the Pies proved on the weekend that their list lacks depth, and I will go one step further by saying their midfield lacks depth and have done more work then both Adelaide's and West Coast midfield, I expect the pies to tire by finals......

like every year it is about positioning yourself for an assault, the Crows and Eagles will be top 2 so if they can get there lists fit and firing at the right end of the year, well they will be hard to stop.....

I have frequently read that people have not been too impressed by the crows, well they sit 9 and 2, it's scary to think what theyt might be able to do once they do start to impress

I completely agree that the Crows, then the West Coast and then Sydney are the best in the league at the moment. Why people state that the Crows aren't that impressive is beyond me. I think they are awesome at the moment. West Coast - come from behind against Carlton and Geelong, and then Melbourne and Essendon before those 2 also were from behind - aren't the Best in the Comp and Sydney are cruising well.

It's the cream of the crop from Vic which is most debatable. I really think if Geelong click well they could again finish in the lower half of the eight and scare! I, too, don't have confidence in Melb and Coll being the best come september, but at the moment they are doing really well.

If you like giving money away you can send some my way if you like. With so many 'interstate' sides in the top eight, that means road trips for the Demons..who are absolutely shite away from Victoria. No chance. PM me for payment details
