Because of Better Homes & Gardens.

Another year of listening to internet radio and watching the updates on the AFL site - or SAFOOTY.

What a joke though.

I don't even watch Friday night footy any more (unless a Cats game). ABC radio for me. A lot better commentators too.

Fox will own it all soon, and I'll have to give up watching AFL 'cos I won't be forced to subscribe to that "basic package" of stocking stuffers.
Maybe local TV will start broadcasting SANFL live, rekindle its image, and thus boost attendances...

The ever so increasing annoyance is that if Ch 7 DECIDE not to broadcast a game live - then Fox should be able to pick it up.

As it stands, I have fox and FTA and can't see it either way. My mate in Canberra has Fox, gets the game televised live on the Main Event Ch on Friday nights.

Channel 7 are ridiculous. They don't show any games live unless it is a Crows or Power Game. Even on a Sunday they don't show live football. It is an absolute joke that in this day and age live football (except Port or Crows) is not shown in this state.

Completely agree!

FTA completely make a mess of showing sport so I can't wait for the day all sport is shown on Fox as it will be Live then.

Totally agree, how much of the Audience do their advertisers miss out on after people switch on their radios instead!

WTF, I think you may have misunderstood Booney. Sydney and Brisbane get live games Friday night on channel 518 (Mainevent channel) and they don't pay for it. We don't receive that broadcast here.

Yep, to make up for 7's usual Friday night slot up here of 11:30 pm or so.
Strangely enough on the Gold Coast, the games are shown at a decent hour.

Here is my theory,

If everyone who every complained about this Friday Night Football Farce

1) rang Channel Seven and told them that whilst they treat their viewers with such comtempt they will watch Nine news instead of seven.

2) if they have an ozmeter actually do it.

The station would have on its records tens of thousands of complaints and threats of lost news viewers and thus they may well make the change.

Here is the reality

Seven do it to maximise their prime time ratings which go until midnight.

For a Friday night 7.30pm to midnight even with those who dont watch in lieu of radio etc they end up with mor overall viewers this way than if they put it on at 7.30pm and everyone switches off at the end of the game ie 10.30pm.

So hurt them in the ratings they also care the most about, the news hour.

Bar the last couple of months its been a pretty close battle and stations spend a lot of their promotional budget on this time slot.

Who knows in these days of facebook / web site campaigns it might happen ... one day.

Not having a go at you Phil obviously, but this tripe they keep trotting out about ratings is absolutely ridiculous. If the game was live, they'd get more ratings than Better Homes and Gardens, and better ratings than the game when it's on delay, fullstop. And then they go and contradict themselves by putting Port and Adelaide Friday night games live. Gimme a break.
