Over in the land of Freo. Good win by the cats. When all the old stagers are up and running there not bad....or are they?
God knows, but they have been looking better in recent weeks.

maybe they have finally hit there straps and realised they arent as good as they thought they were after 2 big wins in the first 2 games and then crumbling.

but now they are playing to their ability and there are no big heads???????

lets face it they have only beaten Essendon and Freo, who are both no good.

awsome i got a tip up, didnt realise it was in perth until it was too late, same old Geelong dont win when you want em too (NAB Cup GF for example) and when you dont they do (just to give you the shites and two minds for the next week)

Well as I said, Geelong are one of the teams with plenty of chances to improve and get themselves back into contention. These past two wins show they're at least making some of that opportunity.

next game is Adelaide at AAMI

Geelong has to be at least 7-8 after Round 15 to make the finals this season. We won't beat Adelaide next week and should defeat Carlton. The important (read very important) match is against Port Adelaide. There isn't enough room in the eight for both Port and Geelong (unless St Kilda fall in a big hole) so I think whoever wins that game will make the finals, you can forget Freo who are still relying on too few.

Some important things happened during the Freo match

Brad Ottens made a contribution.
Andrew Mackie and Steve Johnson were not in the side and were not missed. Bye bye boys.
Steven King played and when he plays, Geelong's win/loss ratio improves significantly.
Kent Kingsley is finished.
Nathan Ablett will one day kick a bag. We need him to do it this season.
Cameron Mooney is the most important player in our team.
Matty Stokes has arrived as an AFL player. I'd rate him much higher than Shannen Byrnes who couldn't kick straight to save his life.
Gary Ablett Jnr kicked a career best six goals in the match..Medhurst and Farmer's impact was minimal.
More from the 'finished' department; Troy Cook. Only selected to rough up Ablett and he got belted on the scoreboard where it counts.
Cameron Ling starting to return to form. REB and many other Cat fans may just owe him a big apology at the end of the year.
Geelong finally won a second half

Probably our best performance of the year. Funny that when we don't win interstate it's same old Geelong but when we do the opposition is 5hit.

I know syd! Maybe it's a case of this grumpy, impatient Cat fan forgetting all of the good things Ling did in previous seasons rather than what has occured during this current rough trot. Always happy to be proven wrong by Cats players returning to form but some changes will be made after this season. I reckon Mackie, Johnson and Kingsley won't be in hoops next year.

All I can say is thank you Essendon football club for playing us back into form.

Essendon have played alot of clubs back into form. Its what there about this season.

I think this years trade period will be most interesting, given the depth in this years draft pool teams may be reluctant to trade early picks for recycled players

Well you will be coming up against the Crows soon. And as you have stated in a previous topic, they have not impressed you. So I guess Geelong (who have impressed us all so very much) will impress and beat the Crows. Should be a shoe in hey REB.

Sorry there DS, but with essendon floating around there is always the opptunity to off load older players for some good picks.

Seriously though, they did impress me against St Kilda. If you read my post you should have noticed it was the style of play rather than the standard of play I was critical of and Adelaide played entertaining football against the Saints in my view. Don't write off the Cats mate because Craig has yet to taste victory over us since he took over, although he would be favoured to do so on this occasion.

At times this year the cats have been critised for lack of work ethic in the midfield, no two way run, if they drop off in this area next week they will get smashed........

The Cats will need to be with the Crows at half time, the Crows are the fittest side in the league, the cats fitness has been questionable

should be a good contest

No syd, the Cats need to be ahead of the Cows at half time, which is why I won't be tipping them.

I certainly rate Mackie as a prospect. Not sure if it's him or his environment or injuries as to why he's not living up to his potential.

Would like to mention here (since the Ablett thread has been locked) that if you wanted to get a better understanding of Ablett the man, I would highly recommend reading the book that was bought out 3 years ago by Garry Linnell called : Playing God - The rise and fall of Gary Ablett. As well as pretty much having the life story of Ablett it has very detailed info on all his coaches (Tom Hafey, John Devine, Malcolm Blight and Garry Ayres) and several of his former team-mates. A good story about life as well as Ablett.

MACKIE has had a good day today against CARLTON as did McCarthy who booted 5 goals.

Mackie is a little inconsistent and struggles to string together senior games because he is so hot and cold.

He can come back and play for glenelg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
