Byron and the Dees

How do we think Byron will fire up this week? I had some mail that told me when he departed the Power at seasons end it was because the Power had chosen to take a punt on one player, giving that player a full contract, and Byron got the short straw of the two, being offered the incentive based contract.

Knowing Choppy is one who likes a physical challenge,if I was one of the Power boys tomorrow I would wearing a set of rear view mirrors out there,I would also hate to hear a team mate scream "man on" or worse still hear the Melbourne members fire up just before *CRUNCH* and this feeling of lifelessness takes over.

For my tip,I think Melbourne are a top 6 unit and should account for us fairly easily, about 24-36.

I think before and during the match he will be heavily monitored. I dont think the Dee's will want him reported and explain to him he will be heavily in the eyes of the ump's

You are 100% correct Coorong. As soon as he goes out there looking for trouble, he will find it via the umpires. He would be much better off knuckling down and playing his damaging running game, and kicking 2 or 3 (without killing anyone).

I might get laughed at for this, but who cares.I love the way Byron hits,he has a skill and timing the likes of which no longer exist in footy today, and I dont care if he flattens one of our blokes, its all about protecting yourself and if one of our guys fails to do so and wears it,bad luck.Cmon Byron, give us some more hits for the highlight reel.No doubt I would prefer it to be some one else's team that cops the full brunt of his hits, but if it falls that way,so be it.

I was one of the most dissapointed Power fans last year when the news broke of his departure, and with out a doubt I was not the only one.

I was also bitterly disappointed when Byron left the Power last year. Every single one of his hits, bar the "Begley incident" have been legitmate bumps under the laws of the game - unfortunately for Byron, like Boon said, he has exquisite timing and the perfect body mass to execute his trademark bone crunchers, which don't always seem fair in the eyes of the umpires.

It is unfortunate that his skills don't transfer over and aid his driving capabilities......

Agree - Im a Kangas fan and I still reckon Byrons best footy was in his first couple of years with us when he was so hungry for the contest and Pagan got the best out of him - I reckon he needs a special coach to get the best out of him and I reckon Chocco lost that with him last year, Daniher obviously is pushing the right buttons

Still staggers me that he wasnt in the best 52 players picked up in the initial Power squad, therefore went to the Kangas and two years later he is a Norwich rising Star and a premierhsip player!

Wish we had 52 players to pick for our first squad, then we probably would have taken a punt on Byron.

Because his ability was never doubted. However, his commitment was.

He was playing for Port U19s at the time and getting parents up in arms after flattening their little precious one's with one of his trademark bumps.

But he was a nightmare for Port officials as he would literally go missing at times and it was an ordeal just to make sure he turned up on match days.

In the end, I'm guessing Port just didin't want to risk taking a punt on a kid who wasn't able to handle the rigours of U19s SANFL footy let alone the AFL.

As his three years in a Power guernsey showed, it's probably best for Byron's footy that he plays for a club outside Adelaide where he can focus on his footy and stay away from all the distractions...
