Paul Thomas

Talk on the national game

Paul Thomas

Postby TigerBoss » Fri Nov 18, 2005 3:47 pm

This just published up on footygoss...I thought Thomas was already delisted but given an assurance that the Bombers may re-select him in the National or Pre-Season Drafts...wasn't it between Murphy and Thomas for the final spot on the list? If Murphy's retiring, doesn't that mean Thomas' place is safe?

I'm doubly confused about all this.

Veteran midfielder Justin Murphy has retired from the AFL, while Essendon told defender Paul Thomas he would be delisted.

Murphy played 40 games with the Bombers and finished with a career total of 185.

"I want to thank Essendon and my teammates for giving me another chance to play AFL football," Murphy told essendonfc.com.au.

"I have given the game everything I have got and won't look back with any regrets. The time is right to call it a day."

Thomas played eight games with the club this year. These latest list changes bring to 10 the number of players cut from the 2005 primary list.
Is 2009 the year of the Tiger?

He's gone. Just went to the Essendon site. Sheedy rarely gets it wrong when letting a player go. I reckon he will get picked up by another club though. That's one big cleanout at Windy Hill but I guess it had to be done.

Murphy gone is a good thing for the bombers. But hey if they dont want Thomas let him go. Im pretty sure that another club will pick him up. One big cleanout is one way to put it.

Centrals maybe.

Doubt if there's much demand for a 23 year-old who can't even crack the Bombers line-up.

Maybe he is like so many others. Quite a capable player at SANFL level but not quite able to take the next step.

Fantastic break for Paul Thomas. Who would want to waste their football career at the rabble that is Essendon Football Club with its mad scientist coach. While it is quite nomal for middle aged men to have a room full of videos, Sheedys video are all about football! Bizarre!!

I wouldn't call it a rabble. Very proud history and after many years of sustained consistency (which is meant to be impossible in the AFL) something had to give eventually. Re-building now and will be back up there.

A very proud club whose supporters call two 6th place finishes and missing the eight as 'being consistent'. Another one of yesterday's teams...absolute rabble.

How many times have they missed the finals over the last 20 odd years? So they are consistently around the mark which is a good effort in these times of a competition that punishes those who make the finals through the draft system.
The Carlton of recent times is worthy of the rabble tag. I wouldn't put Essendon in the rabble category. They are re-building and it won't be a long period near the bottom unlike some.

Ive heard that although getting delisted by the Dons they may pick him up again in the preseason draft.
As a North supporter I hope he does get picked up as he'd be fantastic for the Dogs!

Yeah cant put Essendon with carlton at the moment. Only room for one rabble at the moment in the AFL.
