Why (some) Crows Barrackers Are Morons...

Postby Punk Rooster » Mon Aug 07, 2006 8:50 pm

Sorry, this comment deserves it's own thread....

While I was sitting in the members (with C'wood attire on- after 5 dress, club blazer etc  ), & had the most ignorant Crows footy barracker behind me- I'm sure she was yelling in my ear just to annoy me (even my work colleague, a Crows supporter, took exception to her level of barracking). Not only was she loud, but her comments smacked of entry level understanding of football (I'd forgotten why I stopped going to games).
I politely asked her to not scream in my ear, & all I recieved was a torrent of abuse & sledging that would make a Dockie blush. I gave her 1 warning, pointing out that I was polite in asking, & that I didn't say don't barrack for your team, just not in my ear.
Now, despite being a C'wood supporter, it does not make it cart blanche for abuse- had I been sitting there drunk, stoned or whatever & abusing the cheerleaders before the start of the game, I would've expected some heavy sledging (albeit from morons), but not when I was sitting there quietly, with another Crows supporter.
My point is that it's true- Crows fans are ignorant morons (CP excluded, as he supplied me with a ticket, & anyone else here who has done me a favour  )
I will point out that this "lady's" husband was lucky that she saw reason, as it would've been him nursing the broken jaw....

I had "some" in brackets- in all my years of going to Footy Park, I'm continually astounded by the lower than average intelligence (from a football perspective) of Crows supporters.
You generally applaud a good piece of play/mark/goal, not applaud a player for taking a chest mark 90 meteres away from an opponent, or kicking a goal during the warm up...
Years ago I was abused for barrcking against the Crows- as I understand it, I should sit there, shut up & watch (& also take abuse), while Crows supporters reverse the theory of evolution at a rapid rate?

I recieved an ignorant running commentary for the 1st half. When any umpiring decisions went C'wood's way, somehow it was Eddie's creation. I think this woman honestly thought that only Adelaide were entitled to frees.
Also, every time Tarrant/Johnson got the ball, the same remark was made about fighting in nightclubs- although I may not of been popular, when I reminded her tha her own beloved Stiffy johncock crashed his car during some early morning shennaigans, & few other skeletons in the Crows closet...

I agree some crows supporters are a bit over the top but mate that is footy, every club has them, go to Subi and watch the eagles, go to melbourne and watch your mob play, the bottom line is footy attracts these supporters, all clubs have them....

In the early 90's I saw a crows v the pies at Vic park, the Pies won the game, one crows supporter was king hit on the way out of the ground and our bus still got bomb by misiles. I alsways wondered how bad would it of been if the crows had won.....

No club is worse then any other, we all have them my friend

so lets talk footy

SD- I sit in the members, or the outer, it's the same garbage.
What really gets me, is that it's a 1 way street. If i had the audacity to answer back, or (dare I say it) show support for my team, security would've been called, I'd probably be thrown out.
Yes, there are probably incidents in melb with C'wood fans, but KG & Cornes swear that every Crows fan is a clean living Christian, who reads the bible during the breaks at the footy.

I agree, the problem is far worse when you get crowds which is 90% home town crowd, when it is a game between two melb based teams and the crowd is 50/50 these mooorrrroooonnnsss blend a bit more in to the crowd.....

mate, unfortunately it will always come down to the luck of the draw, hopefully next time you get a seat with some educated footy people around you

Look i would have to agree with this thread. Some are morons. And God forbid you have a different opinion to them. Or in my case make a very valid point about some players efforts or lack of them. Oh well.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

Having witnessed the Crows play all Victorian based clubs here in Melbourne at various times over the past 11 years I can assure you that indeed ALL clubs have them.

Well if you dressed like you said you did you have nothing to worry about. Only if you wore a collingwood jumper with 20 on the back would you be in fear of your life!!!

I am a Crows supporter.
But - I'm embarassed at some of the "footy" smarts a lot of them have.

I guess that's the downside of how the Crows came in; many people (and families) jumped on board (which is fair enough) but unfortunately these people aren't always the best "Footy fans" when it comes to knowing the game.

The lady who sits behind me, whilst not loud, really just say stupid things.

The man behind me and to the right blames everything on the players.

I'm generally a quiet, reserved supporter (whether it be SANFL or AFL) and would rather stand/sit and enjoy/stress than yell and scream. It's not in my blood to do so.

Never one for controversy but I have noticed something
at the Crows games that happens.
DISSIDENT sums it up well, a lot of people became Crows fans
and a few are not your traditional footy supporter.
The thing I have seen regularly is when there is a close game with a 5 minutes to go,
a few of the Crows supporters can be seen rushing out of the staduim to beat the traffic.
I would seriously doubt if any parochial supporters would do that.

These people should be banned from attending games of Footy and publicly named and shamed in the paper the next day

These are a minority, I call them fabric supporters.
The real Crows supporters are as passionate as any.

i find Crows supporters myself a little unusual, they quickly turn on their own players.

I was at the game sat night, only because of free ticket and even though my money was on the crows i found myself wanting collingwood to win to shut some of those people up.

a great example in the last quarter - Basset i believe went straight for the line, and it was given as deliberate, a good decision, the people next to me were trying to say it was off the side of his boot and even when they watched the reply kept on saying the same thing.......

they obviously didnt see the same as what i did or the umpire.
