AFL feels need to emphasise risks of ducking

It was raised at a recent Laws of the Game committee meeting on the basis of the urgency to dissuade players from using the tactic.
There was even a suggestion that vision of Carlton defender Simon White's near catastrophic neck injury in late July be included in the AFL's official DVD video guidelines for the 2014 season.
White wore a brace from neck to waist for eight weeks after suffering a fractured vertebrae in a tackle while playing for VFL affiliate Northern Blues. He was ruled out for the rest of the season, but should be ready to start preparations for 2014.
Players deliberately drawing head-high contact is one of five specific rule interpretations to be presented to AFL coaches at the pre-draft summit on the Gold Coast on Wednesday week.
The other key topics to be discussed at the meeting, also attended by senior umpires, umpires officials and Laws of the Game committee members, are marking and ruck contests, disposal in tackling and the protected area around the player with the ball.

The ducking issue and the (non) disposal of the ball in a tackle are two things that really need to be looked at. So many times as soon as a player is tackled they just let the ball go, should be holding the ball every time. There is an obvious difference between the ball coming out in the tackle and the player just dropping it.

LMAO. The AFL changes a rule that didn't need to be changed in the first place and then needs to hold a summit to figure out how to put things back to they were in the first place.
Here's an idea you tards STOP ******* WITH THE RULES and leave the game alone.

I thought if you ducked its not a free?
Isn't the issue more that players cottoned onto this and have their legs drop out from under them so as to get hit high?
If you're about to get in the face its a natural reaction to duck your head.

Not paying a free is not enough of a deterrent as the umpires are not skilled enough to get it 100% right so players still risk their safety in the hope the umpires dont consider they ducked.

Those on the rules committee need to justify their existence - without a certain amount of rule changes, some wouldn't have a job.

Well with the recent focus on concussions effects on later life players still deliberately putting themselves in danger shows how dumb they are. Unfortunately the AFL are trying to stamp it out as they fear liability later down the track when the health of the players decline.

So they're trying to educate the players because the umpires dont enforce a rule properly.

Is it actually written in the rules that if u duck your head u can't be given a free for too high?
