Incorrect disposal doesn't exist anymore.

Well if this it how footy is going to be played this year I cant see myself watching too much. Game is starting to resemble Basketball with the ammount of throws

Just out of interest are you ever happy about anything?

I don't follow either team and to be honest haven't really noticed the umpiring at all.

Yep, I love footy and used to watch nearly every game every week but over the last few years ive started to become more and more disinterested. No other sport in the world constantly changes rules every year and tinkers around with the aesthetics of the game. Have noticed tonight that as soon as a tackle is laid the players drop the ball like a hot spud or throw it away

Agree with jimbo on this

There is no such thing as incorrect disposal or what most of us asjuniors would have called 'dropping the footy'

Umpires couldn't care now if you shit the ball out as long as the ball keeps moving.

Also agree the game of footy played 20 years ago is not even the same sport as to what is played now, whether its for the better is debatable.

I personally have lost all passion for AFL football and see it as nothing more than Aussie rules version of WWE wrestling. Beats watching home and away and it's more about the slide plot during the week than what actually happens on the weekend

Well if you don't actually support a side in the AFL I can see why you don't have the passion. WWE comment is just ridiculous.

Agreed. I went to the season opener last year at Aami and had to sit in the back row of the members.

Tonight there was more empty seats than missing teeth.

I remember after a Carlton Richmond opening game which turned into a fizzer, the media and social media surrounding Richmond opening up the season was huge. Richmond were, in the media's eyes, not worthy of an opening game to the season.

So, who's up for telling Collingwood they can't have the season opener?

The AFL have totally f**ked up round 1 this year I use to love going to Melb for round 1 you'd get 4-5 games in and Carlton v Richmond on the Thursday night was awesome.

Liked this stat from last night.

Sixteen out of Fremantles 22 came from State Leagues, the rookie draft or after draft pick 53. That's a massive number

Goes to show if you develop players well you don't need high draft picks

melbourne hasnt had the first game of the year for a few years now, crows essendon kicked off the season last year, and the fact that they are starting a week earlier has meant they dont get access to the MCG, so thats why carlton richmond isnt getting played either.

having said all that, i do agree that the "soft" start to the year, where they have a split round, is a bit rubbish, im not sure the reasoning.

the cynical side of my says it is foxtel trying to get as many standalone games as possible so they can sell fox footy packages.

Fact is that the AFL players want an extra bye (2 this year) so the season has too start a week earlier.

They also want it starting earlier so NRL doesn't get a few weeks head start
