How do Port approach the off season this year? Invest heavily in the draft? Top up on depth in the middle tier players? Move on some lads?

Will Monfries be retained next year?

You wouldn't think Port would have to deal with the long list of unavailable players next year like they have this year - even just adding Ryder to the mix makes the side look a lot better.

Surely it is to invest in some youth. They have traded for players the past couple of years and still owe a club a draft pick from this years draft.

We won't be topping up, we'll be into the draft and hopeful of having a full list to pick from for the year ahead.

I thought Schulz would not go on, I'm pretty confident he now will. So I only see Carlile and Butcher as the certain delisting / retirements. Mitchell, Colquhoun and one of Stewart ( who I think is desperately unlucky this week ) or O'Shea might be given marching orders.

Who would have trade currency?

I don't think we'll give up anything that would be considered worth a first round pick, unless we got a big offer for a key player.

So, second round pick - Jonas, Ah Chee
Third round - O'Shea, Clurey. Colquhoun
PAFC. Forever.

Could of had 2 first round picks for Lobbe a few years back. That decision has hurt badly.

So you don't think Hartlett will come under fire end of year?

Also with some of those players, other clubs might also view them as being far more valuable than what Port do - might get some decent deals out of it..

No, I personally think all the talk about Hartlett is bullshit. He's been average this year, sometimes average at best, but he's a keeper. Plus nobody would be prepared to take his contract on, not the money, but the length.

It was at the end of '14 when we had Ryder coming into the club but obviously some uncertainty surrounding him. We had no kids ready in that area and Redden was broken down too often to keep.

2 first rounders was indeed a generous offer but we weren't in a position to let him go. Simple as that.

It was the risk that was needed, especially with the top ups and lack of top picks since 2012. It will hurt Port in years to come and to me, we are only seeing the beginning of it.

2012- Wines(7) Clurey(29), Shaw (30), Jonas (85,Rookie)
2013- Impey(21), Harvey(43), Byrne-Jones(52), Amon(68)
2014- Howard(56), Austin(69),Palmer(78)
2015- Bonner(37), Johnson(45)

3 out of 13 playing regular senior footy (wines DBJ impey) isn't a great strike rate

Shaw and Harvey the two killers there. Both KPP, both key forwards, neither still on the list, any AFL list for that matter.

Jonas too.

Howard made his debut this year, so has Austin, Palmer coming along and might get a game this year.

Yep.

Ben Brown was taken within 3 picks after Harvey, too.

Certainly took a huge risk with Shaw. The kid was straight from Under 18's without even playing a senior State League game. Gone back to South Fremantle and played every game so far

Yeah another young gun kpp would have transformed your team. Would have kept draft picks instead of forking out for Dixon.

Having said that it's not exactly easy to draft a gun kpp

Absolutely. Shaw or Harvey were the projects behind Schulz and Westhoff. Neither Shaw or Harvey even got close to AFL selection. Harvey got closer, which in all reality was miles off, Shaw never got even close.

Plenty of kids come straight from 18's to senior AFL lists. Wasn't that big a risk.

So boon id say you blokes will stick with Logan Austin then for rest of the season down back. Seems like a good prospect and would be good to give him a few games now that Carlise maybhave played his last.

Absolutely we will. Carlile I think is done, The big key forward of three years ago play a different game now to back then, up and down the ground and not just plonked inside 50. That means there's not many roles for Carlile. Although, he just went 29 ( in April ) and has one year to run on his contract. He may be the back up next year.

Austin developing (as noted above) might allow us to offer Jonas as trade bait. He's a good size, Austin, at 195 and 85 he's got the right size to be the modern key defender.

With Trengove, Hombsch and Austin as the key big men with Clurey and perhaps one of O'Shea and Stewart as back up ( or Carilie as noted above ) Pittard, Krakouer, Byrne-Jones as smalls with Impey as back up (or forward) we can look to draft some talls for the back half.
