Absolutely, agree. AFL forces our hand there, but as we know $ ain't everything otherwise no bottom clubs would lose anyone.

I would really be pretty pissed off if I was a North fan. They clearly thought their list was better than it was - yes they made two prelims but it was from the lower half of the eight and they clearly thought they were deserving of a top four spot even though they probably werent.

And now they are left in a situation where they didnt blood enough kids, or recruit the right ones (Jed Anderson) and they have fallen way off the pace in a very short space of time

In the 2010s, North have finished 9th,9th,8th,10th,6th(prelim),8th(prelim),8th,15th, and North fans seems to think that represents a successful period

The clubs at the bottom that have had player retention issues are really Brisbane and the Gold Coast and they're not really apples for apples comparison because they have no culture, no back bone, no history and in all reality no real hope and haven't had for sometime.

That's becoming less and less relevant by the day, unless of course getting to preliminary finals is measured as a success.

Only thing that counts is the cup, believe me I know :(

We had a crack, didn't get there but had a good run at it, no one is satisfied but I'm proud that we didn't play it safe, in some ways our run is similar to the the Bulldogs and Richmond.

If you could provide some posts from North supporters to back this up, that’d be great.

This is true, but the difference is the ages of the lists. Richmond and the dogs are in a position to have another crack.

Probably more similar to geelong and Hawthorn in that regard, but they both have managed to refresh somewhat without falling right down (though admittedly starting from a higher base level)

It's here they began to kid themselves, no doubt about it.

No one was kidding themselves. We had a crack & made a Prelim. To show we weren’t kidding ourselves we did it again the next year. Acceptable? No.

You were, in 2016 you held onto that long list of veterans who were then escorted out in droves at the end of the year leaving you with a raft of untried over paid fringe players. Smart list management makes the tough calls before it's too late.

Using the re-signings of Dumont, Preuss and Simkin to validate a statement that North have the best player retention rate in the AFL.... now that's kidding yourselves....

So who have we lost since Gibson that we wanted to retain?

No-one.

Letting Wells & Greenwood go have been proven to be fantastic decisions.

You haven't lost anyone since that you wanted to retain because:

a) no one was trying very hard to pinch your poor quality stock
b) you were holding onto a truck load of past their prime veterans (see also point a)
c) those that were left are getting paid overs so that you can pay the required amount of your cap

I'm that bored, I actually looked at this thread. In all honesty though, geez they must be a frustrating team to support.
