Agreed, it is very hard to judge an Assistant coach externally, I actually wish they interviewed them much more than they do, great to get different aspects of the team/club than the same stuff from the Head Coach all the time.

I wish there were less interviews, to be honest. The same old generic, staged managed, media department training driven answers comes to the fore and we end up with pressers akin to political interviews. Questions asked, no answers given.

Mind you I think the media are as much to blame, the same dull questions with no real substance.

Then Jenkins says what he said, Kochy said what he said and it's created the biggest ex-team mate / president-coach kerfuffle the world has ever seen.

We'll move the Voss discussion over here.

The AFL will be most unlikely to go with an untried coach, IMO, I doubt Barker or Dew would be given the role at this stage, while highly credentialed I don't think they'll risk untried.

So looking at the coaches who have been in the job you can discount Malthouse and Roos, doesn't leave many. Ratten, Leppitsch, Knights, Ayres, Voss....any others come to mind?

Voss, lived in Qld, easy sell to get him to go back there, knows the market ( which there isn't one ) and from what I hear could be on the outer at Alberton and it's looking like his mate Shaun Hart could also be heading back to Qld in a footy directors type role.

I think Ratten is the man imo. Real unlucky at Carlton, due to the Malthouse rubbish.
Well respected and a very good coach by all reports.

The Hawks, Clarkson especially, talks about planning for the future, sometimes 4 or 5 years in advance. I wonder if Ratten is biding his time there?

Me, I'd sit on my hands at Hawthorn for a couple of year as opposed to be on a hiding to nothing on the Goldy.

Just in time for Sam Mitchell to finish up his coaching gig at WC and take the job.

Add M. Crouch for Adelaide and Ryder for Port to round out last nights counts.

No arguments on the 5 you have listed TDK. All have had outstanding seasons for their respective clubs.

What i'd give to have Josh Kelly at Port. He is an absolute jet.

Not a bad effort by Parker, bit surprised he won it.

4-5 years is far to long, no way a bloke waits for a gig that long that may never come around

I reckon the GC gig is a great one, how possibly could you do any worse there, even if results aren't great surely you should be able to get some 'he changed the culture' browny points

With no disrespect to Robert Harvey or Lenny Hayes, with 140 years of history it seems odd that two players of recent history have trophies named after them,

Would have thought St Nick might have finished top 10?

I recently got a "Players player" award named in my honour at my former cricket club that has over 100 years of history, although I was humbled and honoured, I was also a little embarrassed at the same time.

Now I have to attend the presentation each year to hand it out LOL.
