Yes, cause not only do they have a week off before the first final, if they win they have a week off again before the prelim

That's what happens to the minor premier in the SANFL

Did the Dogs ever finish top in their dynasty? I know they never played a prelim final, so that week off more often than not helped. Not sure when it extended out to 2 breaks wether that helped or not

Certainly seen times when it appears to have been an advantage and a disadvantage to the sanfl minor premier.
However it is in relation to the other teams where the issue lies. The team making it to through to play the minor premier in the sanfl has had three consecutive finals and it's chance as to when they had their last week off whereas the lower afl finals teams get a week off they don't deserve

Most years they finished minor premiers. 2002 and 2011 they lost the gf after being minor premier , 2000 and 2009 they won coming through the qualifying.

Centrals also won coming through the QF in 2008. Both 2008 & 2009 Sturt were in prime positions to win the QF's.

I reckon there was a year when they finished top after having the bye in the final round. They then won their first final and went into the Grand Final.

I think your right, reckon it was one of the last 4 wins, could've been the Norwood win

Sturt? Do you mean Glenelg. I remember centrals and Glenelg being a better chance than Sturt those years

I reckon it's all about how you approach the lay off. Try and keep it as match orientated as you can so you don't go through the emotions

I don't drink at the footy but I hope the card machines at the bars are better than the ones in the food outlets, they are so slow!

@Dutchy

We'll move the Voss discussion over here.

The AFL will be most unlikely to go with an untried coach, IMO, I doubt Barker or Dew would be given the role at this stage, while highly credentialed I don't think they'll risk untried.

So looking at the coaches who have been in the job you can discount Malthouse and Roos, doesn't leave many. Ratten, Leppitsch, Knights, Ayres, Voss....any others come to mind?

Voss, lived in Qld, easy sell to get him to go back there, knows the market ( which there isn't one ) and from what I hear could be on the outer at Alberton and it's looking like his mate Shaun Hart could also be heading back to Qld in a footy directors type role.

A lot of the players that left Brissie during that 2010ish period quoted disagreements with Voss as the main factor for leaving.

You would hope 7 years on Voss has learnt from his mistakes and matured as a coach.

If he hasn't, and the Suns appoint him, they will remain a basket case.

I reckon it's pretty hard to measure an assistant from the stands or the lounge room, if I had to, might just scrape a pass mark for the midfield job he's done. Might.

Most of them saw the writing on the wall, I think. Much like Port/Primus era, a mate too many who struggled to make the hard calls and good players suffered because of it.
