Could be that he was being honest when he told Essendon that he wasn't fussed if he was selected in the draft or not. I reckon there's a few playing AFL who are more athlete than footballer, and the love of the sport just isn't there. I imagine for some players the strict training regimen, media spotlight and lack of freedom might not be worth the big bucks?
Looks like the only explanation that'd make any sense
