Its obvious.

The gender pay gap means they don't earn as much as a male for the exact same job, meaning they can't afford to pay for the $100 full size Sherrin, so they get the $25 foam tackified one from Rebel. Which luckily for them, travels ok as long as you don't kick them hard.

Cool.
Thanks.

So no one actually knows.

Not sure how asking a question about the size of the ball has anything to do with equality.

Kids/girls yes, adults no.

It’s a serious question, I don’t know.

What age do kids use a full size footy?
U/15?

I would have thought a full size footy would be ok for most of the girls.

The AFL made a $48.5m profit last year, down $2m on the year before due to investment in AFLW. Next year the investment in womens football across the country will go from $16.5m to $22.5m.

In the last 12 months females playing or participating in Australian Rules Football has increased by 11% to 600,000.

You should all put your knickers back on and get comfortable, womens footy is here to stay.

And so it should.
It’s great for girls to play and aspire to play in a national comp.

But it’s far from perfect and I can’t understand why people don’t want to compare it to the AFL.

Thereabouts, similar to a size 4, it's actually labelled "women's" instead of a size number.

Being heavily involved with women's footy I can understand why, when the variance in size is up to 2 feet and weigh between 45 and 100kg's all things need to be taken into consideration, a smaller framed woman would struggle to kick the required 15 metres with a full sized water-logged ball into the breeze, the smaller ball allows the game to flow better and kick into space.

FWIW, women use a 142g ball in cricket too.

How can you compare a young AFLW player who, from age 13 to 18 couldn't play in an organised competition to an AFL player who has been in organised competitions since he was 5 and probably in elite junior development squads since he was 12?

You draw comparisons so you can set standards and benchmarks for the girls to achieve or aspire too.
The comparison is not for rating them but to improve them.

For comparison, we use two size gridiron balls 1010 (seniors) and 1005 (juniors).

The women have their own ball, which is smaller than a junior ball, made out of a stickier substance and has bumps for grip.

Its like throwing a Vortex.
