I'd like to retire and still get paid the following year after my retirement - how good is that (for him)?

Fair chance he was asked to retire and they could upgrade a rookie? Otherwise why would he get paid? List lodgement isn’t yet

Do you think there's a behind closed doors deal being done in light of the extortion arrest a few months ago?

Surely Hawthorn would've had grounds to sack him, I think they've agreed to part ways and not draw attention to it all as court proceedings have just commenced.

Cannot sack him if he wasn’t a part of it

Probably both agreed he wasn’t part of the clubs future and cane to an agreement. He could stay and get the full amount or travel with his wife and get half. Know what I would do

Wasn't he arrested too?

Or has he been cleared?

Doesnt matter about list lodgement, yeah i think it frees up a rookie spot. As others have said it would be an agreed settlement. The full amount s contr is included in Hawthorns salary cap so cant be used on other players. It is the exact same situation as what the AFL said about Buddys 9 year contract at Sydney, if he decides to retire after 6 years the Swans have to carry his salary for the last 3 years of his contract on their books, that is the massive risk Sydney took. Imagine if he quit after his "mental health " problems, sydney would be buggered for years although im sure the AFL would come to the rescue and change the rules

If you think it was mental health carry on in your little bubble.
Was no different to all his other 6 week "calf" injuries

Paying him to tour the world watching his Mrs in WTA
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

Two years wage equates to $166,666 per AFL game he played. Nice coin
