I’ll put this here so it doesn’t look like Port bashing but trade period last season both Rockliff and Motlop were supposedly shopped around all over the place but no takers so what makes them such a great pick up this trade period?

Out of contract RFA this year made them more attractive to clubs would be the simple answer. I think you'll find it hard to find any mention of great pick ups from anyone on here, good or handy inclusion would be more accurate.

I'm amazed we got 19 for him, thought it was going to be 35!
Thank you to Port for giving him over 500k a year, we wouldn't have matched 3 bottletops.

Very happy with pick 19. I hope the change of scenery is what Motlop needs to get his career going again, he has so much potential

Yeah me too, I rated him almost the best small forward in the comp a couple of years ago, I hope he rediscovers his potential and stars, certainly won't be booing him. He's great to watch at his best.

Think you'll find it was the 4 years, not the cash, which bumped him up a rung.

Fair play though pick 19 is overs for him.

Sydney had a list full of COLA boosted senior players still on huge $$$ at that time.

I do agree though, it seems out of whack.

Tin foil hat time but the Motlop compo has AFL fingerprints all over it. Maybe they said to Geelong we will give you 19 as long as it goes to the Suns for Ablett

Not crazy though. If all of a sudden a deal gets done involving pick 19 and a fringe player then well it will answer that question.

Cant be... according to social media Motlop chose Port because of culture, being part of a real club etc.... nothing to do with $$.... Pick 19 would suggest there was very, very good $$ involved in the contract. Or maybe the AFL is using a Morell type matrix that gives value to club culture etc as part of the deal which has bumped up Motlops compo price?!
