He’s going to look good in the SANFL.

Nobody's going to look as good as Carlton did in those guernseys last night, thank goodness it didn't rain :vom:

Yeah they were horrid I must agree.
What was with the printed on denim pockets on the back of the shorts?

Watts to kick 35 goals in the SANFL this year.
Get ya money on it!

Convinced that he is a better defender than forward?
I think Dougal could play just about anywhere to be honest. He's an athletic freak.

With Dixon, Marshall, Watts and Westhoff up forward I'm happy to leave him at CHB.

He's the new Chad Cornes in my books.

Doesn’t have the mongrel in him like Chad did.
But he’s going to be a 10 year player for you nonetheless.

Good call re. Cornes.

I liked him as the 2nd ruck in the 2nd half of yesterday's game. We looked a lot more competitive at stoppages, with Westhoff swinging back to maintain our structure down back.

Riley Bonner set to go bang this year.

Much better showing on Saturday afternoon.

Howard looked solid across half back, very good in fact, Hartlett controlled much of the ball exiting defence, Ryder was as his leaping best, Watts looked more in tune with the ball movement coming at him and S.Gray continues to be under rated by opposition defensive units.

Fogarty looks a player for the lovelies, he's an absolute tank of a kid and I can see why Adelaide have given him the #32 guernsey.

Couple of people at work today were talking about Watt’s performance on the weekend and how they think he’ll kick 50+ goals this season and be the recruit of the season.

Dead set nearly pissed me pants with laughter

I've wheeled out the "Brett Eddy kicked 5 in a pre season game too" to a couple of over exuberant mates.

Still, I'd rather be did that than not.

Whilst true, the two are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

I'm not for one second saying that Watts is a lock for 50+ and the Norm on GF day, but he will add far more to our structure and style of play, than Eddy.

If our aim this season is to create F50 entries that result in scores, then the more isolated 1 on 1 contests we can create, the better. Watts will enable us to achieve this.

Dixon was set to be a lone hand in 2017 and Eddy was taken for 1 year on a rookie contract purely for insurance and we all saw why he didn't play AFL football prior to last year. Can't even compare the two if you were drunk.

Not only the isolated 1v1 contests, but let's not forget that Watts is an elite user of the ball by foot, he's a key link whether it be having his own shots on goal, or setting them up - i'm sure Dixon will much prefer having Watts deliver him the ball than someone who kicks a half arsed mongrel punt hospital ball.

Watts showed on the weekend, he only needs to have a few kicks to impact the score board - Dixon was similar last year as well, regularly accurate.. add in Wingard and Sam Gray, and in theory, converting F50 entries into scores (and more importantly goals) looks more achievable.

Elite user of the footy?
I must have missed that when he was playing in the VFL last year and couldn’t make Melbourne’s 1st side. ;)

You’re wrong mate!

When the real stuff starts he’ll be getting smashed by some 21 year old in the SANFL ;)

Champion Data rated his ball use inside 50 as elite, most of the articles I could find are behind HUN paywalls though.

Does he do it often enough at AFL level? No, he doesn't and that's our challenge and one that Melbourne's coaching group couldn't accomplish. Having said that they haven't really accomplished much at all in the last few years.

The truth is in the middle

Happy clapper Port fans - "Watts is elite and the new critical cog in our premiership push"
Bitter and twisted Anti-Port types - "Watts is a spud softy who will be playing SANFL"

Normal people - Watts will be handy at times and should be able to play a role, but has flaws in his psyche which limits his output
