The rating of Wines as 28th when it comes to midfielders rankings was updated two days ago.

I was referring to the "elite list" link that you initially posted.

yep 28th best mid seems about right to me

I cant see anyone on that list ahead of him that I think is a worse player. (not taking age into account)

He's the 20th ranked midfielder, the 28th (equal) over all.

yep my bad. still, looking at that list I think he's about rightly placed - in fact looking at those below him, theres shiel crouch Merrett Duncan Yeo Sidebottom Kelly macrae Gibbs Adams Whitfield.

on second thoughts 20th overall mid is somewhat generous

still puts him in the top couple in most teams though. which commands top dollar

I know.
2 lots of stats (not opinions), one for current performance and one for past performance.

I think hes very good but I don't watch every minute of every AFL game so I would be more inclined to look at Champion Data analysis than my own opinion to make a definitive judgement.

It also depends on what people's definition of elite is as its a bit subjective. I think champion data takes it as top 10%.
Some might think top 5%.
Some might think top 40%.
Interesting discussion though.

It would be good to see the rankings based purely on this season. Clearly Sloane and Zorko have carry over credits from last year. Jack Macrae and Stephen Coniglio have both had ripping seasons so far and would be right up there in rankings. I reckon Wines is in the right place at about number 20 and there is nothing wrong with that.

yeah those rankings are on their past 40 games, and a sliding weighting, so more recent games are weighted higher

I think theres also some sort of holding provision if you miss games, like Sloane.

The afl player ratings twitter account puts out all sorts of stats,

this one is for ratings for this year

He was probably next cab off the rank.

Ladhams has only just come off the injury list and Frampton isn't looking like he's up to it.
