Jared Polec will play for Port Adelaide next year, with the Power, Brisbane and Greater Western Sydney finalising a complicated three-way swap of draft picks.

In the deal finalised on Thursday afternoon, Port Adelaide gains Polec from the Lions as well as the Giants' pick 21.

Brisbane has received picks 34, 22 and 48 for its former first-round draft pick, while the Giants have taken Port's pick 14.

That leaves the club holdings three choices in the first 14, with senior players Heath Shaw, Shane Mumford, Jed Lamb and Josh Hunt also joining the club.

Brisbane has also sent Sam Docherty to Carlton, for pick 33. A deals for Billy Longer (to St Kilda for pick 25) is thought to be close with Elliot Yeo's move to West Coast also finalised on Thursday. The Lion joins the Eagles in exchange for pick 28.

We took Impey with pick 21

So we got in Polec and 21 and 45, and gave up 14 and 34?

Based on that selling him for 11 now is a big win.
I don't feel as bad now! haha

Not worried about losing Pittard at all. His time was done at Port so happy for him to move on.
However, the talk was Polec for Pick 11 was what we were aiming for, so the fact we've also upgraded their pick for them (from next year's approx. 65-70 to 48 in this years draft) seems like we've lost out a bit here.

Loss for port this time for mine. Perhaps we had to have a loss here given Polec had the ability to walk to the PSD and nominate his price that only the roos would have paid?

Out of interest, what did we give up to get Polec a few years ago?

In my mind it's certainly a loss for Port - last year Pittard was wanted by the Roos, Port would've got around a late 2nd round pick at a guess, instead re-sign and then practically give him away! WTF!

You just hate port Adelaide man!!!!!!

Roos: Pittard Polec and pick 48

Power: pick 11 and 2019 4th rounder

Well played Roos imho!!!

It couldve been picks 1,2 and 3 for these players and youd still say well played Roos such is your unhealthy hatred of Port Adelaide.

Its effectively pick 11 for Polec the rest is irrelevent.

Win/Win

The rest is relevant, Dutch. I don't often agree with UK, but he is on the money here.

Originally - I was of the opinion that there were variables still at play (eg. who Port were to pick at 11) for us to make an informed decision on the winner/loser of this trade, but the more facts that are presented, the more it becomes apparent that North reamed us with this deal.

If the deal was just Polec for 11 - deal in favour of Port slightly, but considering that 12 months ago Pittard was uncontracted and in demand (by North ironically), and we signed him to a 3 year deal, overcompensating because we panicked (sound familiar Port fans??), only for us to trade him 12 months later for nothing - WTF?

Had we lost him to North last year, I am not sure whether we would have been compensated given our FA signings in Rockliff, Watts and Motlop, but his worth is more than a bloody 4th rounder (not to mention the apparent need for us to send North pick 48 as well- **** me).

Pittard isn't just the only fringe player we have traded in recent years for pittence, either. Andrew Moore, Aaron Young, Logan Austin and Jarman Impey all come to mind where Port have received unders come trade value.

I am not overly fussed that he has left, as on field he is a bit of a bomb scare who was either great or an absolute nightmare. I wish him nothing but success at North as he is a top quality bloke from all reports, I just wish that Parker and his team weren't so AFC when it came to bending over at the trade table.

Pick 48 was received from North last year as part of a shuffle with West Coast for later picks. Got it for free, give it away for free.

Who knows, maybe North made it clear Polec for 11 wasn't going to happen and, given the risk of him walking into the PSD we gave something to get something. ( 11 ).

I wasnt aware where the pick 48 came from, so looking at it that way, I dont mind so much.

Still - couldn't we have done a swap of picks at the lower end, rather than send a contracted player away for a half eaten packet of samboy?

Seems Pittard was not liked by the Port faithful, however 2 years ago was in the AA squad

Does it really matter if Pittards good or not? North basically got him and Pick 48 for free.

Well, the logic is :

Pick 48 (now 49) in this draft may not be of any use to us ( we have 10,11,23,30,49 and 84). We also look like getting something for Amon and Hombsch if they both leave. Let's say another pick in the 30's perhaps ( Hombsch ) and another in the 40's perhaps ( Amon ).

10,11,23,30, Hombsch*, Amon*, 84.

Next year we will have access to Trent Burgoyne ( son of Peter ) and Mitchell and Jackson Mead ( sons of Darren ), so next years pick gathered from North will simply be points towards one or more of those players meaning the stock pile of next years picks = points.

So you're looking at fielding an U19's side?

If it’s true that Port are paying half of Pittard’s wages then this just gets better and better

Reports that Port have packaged up picks 10 and 11 as a carrot to the Suns to get either pick 2 or 3.
