I watched it on the box and quite enjoyed it to be honest, even though I wasn't expecting to.

I was a bit the same. But I reckon it might even be better if it was just pure Gaelic footy and not a hybrid

Much better choice too, one of the reasons I drink beer at the G and not AO.

I barely got through the first half, I went out the back and stuffed around for a bit and returned to watch the last 15 minutes. Didn't really capture my attention.

The Australians with bigger bodies didn't look over their shoulders at any stage and as such did as they pleased with the ball. They didn't get caught in a tackle at any stage, with such an advantage they really shouldn't get touched. Sure, the Irish have an advantage when kicking for goal but that's where it ends, even with inferior ball use the Australians have a massive advantage in general play.

Yeah they shrugged tackle that came near them and were more than happy to draw the player in before releasing it.

Seemed to be a big difference in the organisation too - with the Aussies employing an Aussie rules style full press and clearly having an advantage in fitness too

The press up against the Irish was baffling them, for sure.

I just looked at the all Ireland Senior final scores to get an idea on scoring.

The final was 1-17 to 1-16. The "1" for both sides was a goal ( soccer style goal ) and the 17 and 16 were "points" which were called "overs" yesterday, their game doesn't have the extra points on offer for a missed over like the hybrid game.

I reckon they should take away the point posts and play the goals and overs only, we'd have more trouble then I think.

Yeah the behinds don’t add anything to the game really.

It would likely encourage players to get closer in though

It's so impressive to watch how the Irish move the ball. They can get to one end of the pitch to the other in less then 3 kicks.
Australia just handball it around in circles, Slowly moving the ball forward and only really kick to get the ball within 25 mins. It's actually pretty frustrating.
I do like watching Nat Fyfe tho.

I think it was a deliberate tactic to compensate for the Aussies lack of footskills, which worked well.

I attended, was entertaining without being necessarily enthralling.

Laying on the hill with some froffs was hard to take.

Yeah I know why they do it, just makes it boring and frustrating to watch. Maybe it just irks me that they kept going to the possession count and going on about how many times a player had it. They just handballed it back and forth, just for something to do.

I think it was a deliberate tactic to compensate for the Aussies lack of footskills, which worked well.

A restriction on the number of consecutive handballs was brought in a couple series ago (was 4, now 6) as the Aussies just used handball to get close enough for a scoring attempt and ended up winning pretty convincingly. The Irish cracked it and had a rule brought in which doesn't feature in either game to force the Aussies to use their feet more.

I played a season of Gaelic footy about 15 years ago and had great fun. The local comps (9 a side and 13 a side back then) were a bit of a mix of teams ranging from 14 year old kids with a few old buggers to 6ft+ semi-pro footy players - one team was stacked with North Adelaide players including Darryl Wintle (and perhaps Chris Ladhams) who played AFL that year. Toeing up the ball was a bit of a shock to the hamstrings but other than that it feels pretty close to Aussie rules, just faster.

I personally didn’t find it frustrating that they did it, but you’re right about the commentators banging on about possession stats

Crazy time for it especially in November. Would have got at least 10k more to the game if it was Friday night, maybe more.
