Time to go all out and get Rankine if we can

Would Carlton take McGovern or Sloane and pick 15 or whatever for pick 1?

The other thing with this draft is you could foresee Lukosius, Rankine or Walsh going at #1 and there not being much risk in taking one over the other, all look like they're ready to play. Carlton won't want to miss out on a chance of getting any one of those 3.

Apologies for the off topic - Lukosius, is he related to the bloke who played for either Torrens/Woodville or the Eagles in the 90's?

Plenty of risk in Rankine IMO. Plenty of talk in Melbourne that he has told a few clubs already that he will walk after his initial 2 years so it might scare a few off. Carlton are a lock to take Lukosius, Silvagni has already stated they won’t be trading pick 1

Lukosius and Curnow gives them something to kick too. Just need to find someone to kick it to them.

Rankine, well, you take him and back your club and your culture to keep him and if not you do as Adelaide did with Lever and gouge the market for him to come home. No risk for mine.

Agree with both you guys. Carlton will go to the draft with pick 1 and take Lukosious. Him and Curnow gives them something at least to kick at.

Lukosious is being touted as a once in a generation player. You just can't pass it up.

As for Rankine well I think a few clubs will take that risk. But if Adelaide can move and shake a bit in the draft then good luck to them.

Could Carlton's pick depend on if they feel they need a forward or a midfielder?
They want a midfielder - Walsh goes at pick 1
They want a forward - Lukosius

There is also the King brothers, one's a forward the other's a backman. They've been spoken about as very high picks.

Anybody else see a similarity between lukosius and jack watts?
Here's hoping he turns into a better player than Watts

I’m not overly sold on both Lukosius or Rankine and I’ve seen plenty of both

Mind you the first time I saw Ben Hart I thought he was crap because Tim Symes kicked 7 on him for Westies

Kinda agree with Paul Roos theory of midfielders over KPP's in the draft. Obviously thats a bit generalised and depends on just how good the talent appears, but Mids can generally slot straight in and start contributing much sooner than forwards that might need a few years of conditioning and muscle.

Carlton however might feel they're weaker up front in terms of key forwards than they are on ball, so Lukocious is probably their man.

Reckon the Crows will find a way to get Rankine, but who knows, maybe they have their eyes on someone else? Remember a few moons back everyone was stunned when they overlooked Brad Ebert for a little known lad named Dangerfield.

Dangerfield was never an unknown. He only just made the cut off of that draft and had to finish school first. He was always going to be a star but you had to be patient and pretty much write off year 1.
