Thats the type they need, i said at the start of the season their forward line was crap becaus they didnt have any tacklers in their fwd 6 or 7. Gray and Wingard certainly dont. Wingard on the way out then id imagine

Wingard laid more tackles this year than he has in any previous year, good observation, I doubt he's going any where and Dahlhaus is most certainly on his way to Geelong.

Talk that Carlton, Gold Coast and Brisbane are asking for priority picks.

Carlton - They've chosen to take the long road home, let them keep walking along it, you keep telling the fans to be patient, you can be too. No, you can't have one.

Gold Coast - Maybe, but given they'll get at least one more for Lynch and maybe two with May they can probably have one as the kid will only leave soon after anyway. Sure, why not.

Brisbane - Have reportedly already asked for one, are you ******* kidding me? No, you can't have one either.

The overaching issue is that the AFL want an even competition. And they know it takes years to rebuild. They want 9 games a week that are close/competitive 23 weeks a year. If not for priority picks, evening up the comp will be many years away.

There's no guarantees the path Carlton have chosen to take is going to work and to reward them for deciding to bottom out like no other club has isn't appropriate, IMO.

Gold Coast and Carlton would probably select a burnt pie and a mouldy crumpet with their picks anyway

Some talked about North looking at using pick 10 for Polec.

Apparently something like Polec + ports 2nd rounder (27) for Pick 10.

Probably close to it I would say.

About right, make it our 3rd rounder and you've got a deal.

Would give us 9 and 10 in the draft and the ability to live trade both for one higher up the order.

Why is it called live trade and not just trade?

Correct, on the night of the draft Trader sides can "live trade" picks.

Essentially Port could say to Gold Coast we'll give you picks 9 and 10 for pick 2 and they swap there and then.

Think it will end up being more along the lines of Polec for 10 and a juggle of later picks

Agree with above, Gold Coast maybe the only one I would give, but I would prefer AFL put more $ or resources into their development coaching of these kids like Brisbane have done, to try and make these next kids stick.

Ah nice, didn't realize they could still shuffle on draft night.

So what would be the reason you do it on the night but not during trade week?
Is it a case of say Port wait to see that Carlton don't take one of the SA boys with pick one, so then Port are now more keen for Pick 2 and happy to give up 9 and 10 on the night, but weren't willing to do so before they knew who carlton took?
And conversely, Gold Coast wanted to keep pick 2, but once Carlton took their preferred selection, they are now more willing to give up 2 for 9 and 10?

Slightly off topic, but still concerning the Gold Coast basket case, I reckon one of the first things they should be aiming to do is really build up the local derby matches. Hard to do these days, but a "line in the sand" type game might start some interest. The Derby and the Showdown probably wouldn't have needed it, but the physical clashes, particularly in the early years, certainly helped build the rivalry and interest.

If a kid that your team wants and hasn’t been picked up like you thought they would, you could swap picks to make sure you can get him.

Imagine at pick 6 Rankine is still there Port couple couple up a pair of late first round picks to get that pick and get Rankine

Should play it in round 1 before both teams are near the bottom or have Brisbane play Carlton away in round 1, Gold Coast could draw St. Kilda at home then they could potentially be playing for top spot in round 2.

If the AFL has a formula for Priority Picks then Brisbane would get one before Carlton.

2015 - 17th
2016 - 17th
2017 - 18th
2018 - 15th

I agree they don't need one especially if they pick up Lachie Neale, should push for the 8 next year.
