Talk on the national game

I think the ALP threw in around $300k as well.

I believe the funds come from the Tourism SA coffers, the state government see it as a no-brainer to help ties with China and drive Chinese tourism into SA. It's why the Victorian government was so keen to get a Victorian team involved to they too could join in on the exercise.

It's also part of the thinking behind Sky City's investment in the casino / hotel precinct, they see the Chinese gambler looking to SA as a destination with our food and wine culture also attracting people.

Neither government should pay for it whether it’s Port or Adelaide

They're going to spend the money on tourism related material anyway, may as well invest in something that may actually see profitable returns - or would you rather a stupid 30 second West End Draught tv commercial? Maybe they could invest thousands to create another "SA Logo"?

China is actually part of SA Tourism Commission's long term strategies, so this ties in with that.

I’m doubting too many Chinese people would have any idea a footy game is on in China.

Would love to know what percentage of the small crowd they get are actually Chinese people.

Seeing as it’s a St Kilda home game surely they get the rights to sponsorship?

The Victorian Minister for Trade and Investment was sat next to Kochy in China last year, I believe it was he who pushed the AFL to make it a Victorian team heading up there. Must be something in it for them.

Not when they can spend $400M to build a tunnel from one part of a busy road to go under a couple of roads and re-emerge in another part of a busy road.

To be clear I’m not knocking it just because it’s Port, that money I believe should be used elsewhere

It's a Port Adelaide home game. ;)

It's not just about the Chinese bums on seats, of which in reality is very few ( although the TV audience was bigger than the AFL GF ) it's about the business connections and exposure of Australia and more so South Australia to the connections.

I understand, you're no UK Fan. ;)

The return on investment must be worth it, or at least be seen as being worth it in the long run. The ALP couldn't get it's fingers in the pie quick enough and with the Libs doing the same it suggests it is worth doing.

Correct, St Kilda quoted the deal ( 3 years ) being worth around $2m to them.

Not off the top of my head but the continual wastage of tax payer money is disturbing in SA.

Of course you don't, it was rubbish.

They've wisely invested elsewhere. ;)
