Well done by the Cats, this is what representing the community looks like.

Following on from the announcement that they would no longer be accepting any gambling-related revenue, the Geelong Cats have today announced the purchase of a health and fitness venue in Geelong.

The club has purchased Geelong’s Gym, located across the road from GMHBA Stadium in Newtown, as part of a longer-term strategy to replace gambling-related revenues at the club whilst still creating a positive impact on its communities.

Geelong Cats chief commercial officer, Braith Cox, said the opportunity to purchase the gym was one that was in-line with the club’s strategy to exit gaming and improve the lives of the community.

“Geelong’s Gym, the longest continually running gym in Geelong, presents an opportunity for the club to use their experience in wellbeing, high performance, health and rehabilitation to drive positive outcomes for the people of Geelong,” Cox said

“The recent sale of our gaming venue and the decision to no longer allow signage promoting gambling at our home games at GMHBA Stadium, have been outcomes that our members have warmly welcomed.”

The Cats will take over operations of the gym in late January.

What’s De Goey worth then?
Can they afford both on long term contracts.

Grundy is worth every $ IMO

Agree with Grundy, solid citizen and a good decision ( at this point ) by the Pies, De Goey on the other hand looks like he might be a little more volatile. Would you sign someone with his chequered history to a 7 year deal? I doubt it.

I wouldn’t either but I’m sure a few clubs will put the offer too him to attract him away from the Pies.

This will be the last year Collingwood is in the premiership window then, they can not possibly hold onto any other stars coming out of contract this year. Id imagine Grundy's contract is heavily back ended but still, its hard to see any other outcome for other stars.
One of the few times ive agreed with Kane, you don't need the best ruckman in the comp to win flags. Collingwood need key forwards, Micheok isn't winning them a flag

Long deal doesn't necessarily mean huge coin, Might have been his trade off, give me 7 years at $750k instead of 5 at $1m.

That now makes 2 clubs not receiving gambling related income, seems a very slow moving ship in the AFL industry

Of course it's slow moving, you can't just kill off a portion of your revenue stream overnight.

Not what I'm saying. You said it's a slow moving ship, it will be, for some clubs it's a large portion of their revenue stream and it will take time to move into other streams. Port have reduced machine numbers at the Port Club and Price of Wales over the last two years.

North, Adelaide, Fremantle, Gold Coast, West Coast, Sydney and GWS gain no revenue from gaming machines. ( They may get revenue from other gambling sources ).

North are heavily funded by the AFL which in turn is heavily reliant on gambling revenue.

They also have their own in house gambling in the form of their Major Raffle.

Gambling is gambling.

I would call 16 Million good coin.

It's not a criticism. I do realise all clubs get AFL funding.

And why should clubs get rid of it when it’s perfectly legal?
I bet the AFL gets a stack more gambling revenue than what the clubs do and they distribute that back to the clubs so in a way every club is reliant on gambling revenue
