Interesting comparison, how much better would we have been over the last 5 years if Dixon wasn't alone in the key post forward of the ball, how much worse would we have been without him?

How much better would you have been in Dixon wasn't also a 200cm potato?

You were no worse (or better) without him during the games he missed.

6-6 in 2019 before he returned, of the 6 wins 5 were against the bottom 5, West Coast the only good one.

I'll admit he's under performed based on the hype and his pay packet, but if we didn't get him when we did we'd have been much worse off and if we got someone who wasn't capable of playing the role he's played we'd be worse off....and that's finishing 9th and 10th every ******* year.

Do I want more from him? Yes. Do I think he's harshly judged? Yes.

Why did the club allow it to get to that stage?
Why wasn’t it fixed earlier and preserved as it should have been?

The PAE Council have condemned it as it's theirs to condemn. Certainly not happy to see it go, made Mum's day 7 years ago....

I'm not sure, the statement says "been deemed unsafe by the council".

Well if they’re not responsible for it, how could they have “put their head in the sand” ?

I was at Port club on Saturday wondering why it is even still there and not been replaced by an electronic scoreboard.

Its not an attractive structure but I have a mate who grew up changing the scores on that scoreboard, I reckon he'd be gutted at the moment.

The canteen between the two stands that has also been condemned, I used to look at the callers up there on the scaffold and think I'd never get up there!

Was a bit sad last night when I read about the scoreboard. Always been an iconic part of Alberton Oval (imho) and whilst it's a sign of the times that nothing's sacred (particularly when it comes to safety) it's unfortunately another constant of yesteryear to fall by the wayside. Was hoping the club and/or council might have been able to restore it or replicate it, but it's not sounding that way.

Yeah, it's sad to see those old landmark structures that have been part of suburban grounds and the history of the SANFL fall into decay. Apparently NL Williams was a prominent cricketer and local dentist, surprised he could find the time to play each weekend. ;)

If the council still owns Alberton Oval (which I presume is the case), then the scoreboard, as something affixed to that part of the ground, is the council's to manage (or not manage) as it sees fit. The lease with the PAFC probably fleshes out the respective responsibilities for buildings etc in more detail. Councils also have powers to issue emergency orders on anyone if a building's condition is considered unsafe. :-B

I had to look Mr Norman Leonard Williams up ( Is there something in the Williams name and Alberton Oval? ) as I knew little about him.

From 1918/19 to 1941/42 for Port Adelaide he took 965 wickets @ 18.46 with a best of 9/22 against West Torrens at Thebarton. He also played 34 First class matches taking 122 wickets @ 39.

In 1947 he died suddenly, aged just 47, the scoreboard was soon named after him.

I think he has the record for most career wickets in district cricket? I just presumed he was part of the Williams footy dynasty.

Brings a new dimension to having a home ground advantage.

No Port players in Robbo's top 50 players. No real surprise but Boak was named 29 in 2019 and had one of his best seasons last year, so could be considered a bit stiff.
