Correct, I didn't.
Begs the question why they didn't do "it" or something along the same lines on Friday night to arrest the situation against the same opposition...

Not the same opposition. Martin, while not a gun, is a genuine ruckman where Young is not. Their structure was miles ahead of what it was in Round 23.

Not sure I buy that.

Bont on 1 leg, Weightman & Keath watching on from the sidelines, on your home dung heap, in front of your home crowd. Touched up by 70 odd points.

Yet Hinkley started Drew on the bench. Yes its only a small thing and yes hindsight is wonderful but I really think that failed lack of move sparked the Dogs in that first 5 minutes. Then when Drew went to Libba 5 minutes later and 3 goals down or whatever it was you could see the Dogs players grew confidence. You could see on TV Libba getting into Drew which no doubt was about him bench warming.

Never coached A Grade footy but can you 'grow confidence' or feel like your 'beating the other coach, if you can I'm sure Beveridge was sitting in the Dogs box saying we've got em lads, Hinkley is buckling under the pressure.

I wouldn't underestimate the impact that first 5 had.

Dogs started fast, and it snowballed out of control from there (from memory).

Aliir had no impact, and when he did unfortunately he picked out a Dogs player moving the ball fast back into the dangerous space.

Going forward, Port were able to wrestle some momentum for patches, but couldn't capitilise with goals - a few points, out on the full, turnovers.. whereas the Bulldogs were good.

Also some of the Dogs players were simply on - Naughton looked almost unstoppable.

Perhaps more to do with backing your best players/mids and leaders in for the start - they're generally the barometer - and with a likely advantage in the ruck, is it really that unimaginable to think the starting midfield could've had the ascendency and hit the scoreboard early and gain the upper hand, rather than playing two mids and a stopper?

Yeah absolutely hindsight is wonderful, that's why I would never be a coach.

In Hinkleys case it ended up being the perfect storm against him, not only did the Dogs get the flyer it was Libba who really drove that ascendancy. If it was Bont people wouldn't really be talking above the Drew move.

At the end of the day though Hinkley made a choice and in no other terms it backfired completely...….

That's a lie - people would still be questioning why the Brownlow fav wasn't shown more attention.

Drew on bench if nothing else gives an opportunity to view the most active midfielder in the opening minutes and then send him to them.

The ownership needs to rest more on the players than Hinkley for the start - Boak & Wines are experienced enough to know to apply defensive pressure or position themselves at stoppages to limit Libba's impact.

Could've rolled a half forward up if they wanted to create the an added number to lean on him.

Maybe they were simply not good enough to do that. Experienced yes but maybe Drew is simply a better footballer at that aspect of the game.

I understand the point re top 4 sides being harder to beat - but I think the difference between Port's performances v top 4 sides over the last couple of years and their performances v the rest is far starker than most sides.

It's also not lost on me that over the last two seasons, Port's record in finals is:

Non-knockout finals: 2-0
Knockout finals: 0-2

Whether the fault of Kenny or otherwise, they just haven't shown up much when the going's tough.

You have a beauty in Richardson at the helm, he is very impressive and constantly talks about improving Port's financial position, if only you can ditch Kochie.

The effort to colour code it with teal/turquoise was a nice touch.

Draft night 2012, Ollie Wines Mum, in tears after learning her son was going to Port Adelaide told the Melbourne recruiting team at the bar "You just over looked a Brownlow medallist".

Got to love Mums.
