Were you listening to amplitude modulation or frequency modulation on your wireless?

Do you remember when their van would come to your school fete and they felt like they were Howard Stern visiting?

The old geezer would be playing the Temptations while sitting back sucking on his dart like he was Andy Dufresne.

Port be playing with masks on next week if they play home

The Emergency Management (Cross Border Travel – Associated Direction No 32) (COVID-19) Direction 2021 came into effect at 12 noon Saturday 17 July 2021.
The following change is in place
South Australian residents returning from Victoria are now subject of Level 4 requirements on arrival, irrespective of where they have travelled in Victoria:
o COVID Test day 1, 5 & 13
o Self-quarantine for 14 days
o Must wear a mask (covering nose and mouth) at any time they come into contact with the public for 14 days after arrival.

That's why it seem strange for the AFL to send another team to a red Zone.

I do believe they will be given an exemption and go back to he Covid bubble they were in last year.

Like a Dad bod on a Bali beach Port showed some real guts on the weekend against a St Kilda outfit that had won its last three on the trot and had settled in on its own deck to fight for a spot in the 8.

Port, on the other hand, had entered a “sterile corridor” ( never want to hear a doctor say that to me ) flying into Melbourne with our forward line decimated by injury. Our fleet of small forwards cut down by injury includes Gray, Rozee, Butters, Fantasia and Farrell. With Duursma building in the SANFL and Rockliff on the long term list we’ve got 7 of our forward / midfield options unavailable. All sides have injuries, not many in a concentrated zone like we have though.

This looked to be a problem early on as St Kilda had 6 scoring shots to 1 at quarter time with Rising Star Mitch Georgiades the only shining light for Port up forward and it was the back half who was under immense pressure. McKenzie, Jonas and Burton held strong early under the St’s attacking pressure and if not for their efforts early the 10 point ¼ time margin may have been far greater. Shocking kicking for goal by the St Kilda forwards certainly helped.

Universally loved Paddy Ryder got the scoring under way in the second term and stretched the lead out to 14 points and I felt like the flood gates were about to open, we’d held them at bay but it looked like the Saints were about to put the foot down. I certainly didn’t see our makeshift forward line responding like it did but after Amon snapped truly on the right and then followed up on the preferred left the scores were back even. Georgiades bobbed up again and at half time Port are in front, not only in front but well on top after kicking 3.6 to 1.1 for the term. Momentum certainly had shifted and it was the dam wall at half back that was leading the way.

Credit must go to the coaching group for the set up they produced on the weekend, not only did they isolate Georgiades at times to see him finish with 4 majors they had Amon playing as the front and centre inside 50 ( also had 10 tackles ), Lycett at CHF for a period and his ability to compete in the air and at ground level was important, Frederick ran through there for some dash, Mayes usually deployed in the mid field or half back laid 2 tackles inside 50 and had 4 score involvements as well as kicking one himself and back half players Burton (5), Houston (3), Lienert (3), DBJ (2), Aliir, Bonner, Jonas and McKenzie (1 each) combined for 17 of our 43 inside 50’s.

For the first time this year it felt like the back 6 controlled the space as we like to do, they pushed up into St Kilda’s midfield and allowed us to control the aerial contests in the back half. St Kilda had 12 contested marks, our back 6 had 10 between them. This is what we like.

When Woodcock goaled midway through the third term the lead was out over 2 goals and momentum was with us as we’d kicked 4 without reply but St Kilda weren’t done with. Marshall for St Kilda hit back, Georgiades replied and when Wines toe pocked his goal through we’d broken them open. That was until Webster goaled and a brain fart from Burton handed King a major right on ¾ time and our comfortable 20 point lead became 8 very quickly.

Marshall again got forward for the Saints and goaled and it’s game on as the lead is down to 2 points. Enter that young man again, Mitch Georgiades, he takes a strong contested mark ( 4 for the day ) and kicks truly to settle the nerves but they wouldn’t lay down. Hill goals after an Aliir / Lienert mishap and St Kilda are in front. Much like the Sydney game it felt like they had us here.

He’d been present all day, as he has all year, and when Wines took a strong contested mark on the wing the ball moved forward to Sam Mayes, he’d missed one moments earlier but his mark on the edge of the square and goal made the margin 7 points and we’d just got a break. Insert superlatives about Wines here. Another outstanding performance. When Dixon danced around former team mate Howard for the sealer a well earned 4 points was about to enter a sterile corridor back to South Australia.

One of the more satisfying wins in recent times for Port. Down on personnel, not in great form, away from home against a side in form and wanting a spot in the 8. Mind you, St Kilda can be as fickle as any when they want to be.

Boon’s best – Wines, Georgiades, McKenzie, Amon, Lycett, Burton
