This’ll be interesting to see what effect it has on crowds.
What’s their rationale with charging now?

They've got no money from the losses of 2020 I assume.

Certainly didn’t help.
If crowds drop dramatically though it won’t be a good look.
I guess it just proves the AFL is all about the $$$ now.

For how long, it’s been about 4 years already.

Players are asking for more money and more costs so the AFL need to help get it funded somehow

I certainly ain’t no advocate of women’s footy but I would have thought a 5-10 year plan might have been suffice.

Unsure if already discussed but did you see the release from the AFL yesterday? The media all jumped on the 20 minute quarter lengths but no one seems to be talking about the tribunal changes:

The definition of ‘High’ contact expanded to cover if there is a careless or intentional dangerous tackle which has the potential for injury to be caused through dangerous high contact with the ground but where high contact does not actually occur;

The guideline in relation to upgrading impact based on the potential to cause injury expanded to capture all intentional strikes (not limited to head-high strikes only); and

The ‘contesting the ball’ exception in relation to high bumps and forceful front-on contact tightened by changing the requirement that "the Player was contesting the ball and did not have a realistic alternative way to contest the ball" to "the Player was contesting the ball and it was reasonable for the Player to contest the ball in that way".

Slowly but surely removing any remotely physical aspect from the game. Even if it caused no damage and had no intention to cause damage.

Kane's take. Can't argue with it.

The Favourite
Geelong

"I've got Geelong as the favourite right now.

"15 points up in the Grand Final at half-time, you add the best key forward in the comp (Jeremy Cameron), you add an A-grade midfielder in Shaun Higgins, plus a very good experienced wingman in Isaac Smith.

"You're going to get eight home games that you didn't have in 2020. Geelong, for me, are the favourites."

Contenders
Richmond
Brisbane
Port Adelaide
West Coast

"All a very realistic shot of winning the premiership."

Finals shot
Western Bulldogs
St Kilda
Melbourne
GWS Giants
Carlton

"All have a realisitic finals shot."

Competitive
Sydney
Collingwood

"I can't get a read on Collingwood and how they are going to be impacted. I think they'll be competitive, but maybe won't play finals."

Bad but not terrible
Gold Coast
Hawthorn

"Gold Coast will improve but not enough.

"Hawthorn can win any game they start but they just don't have enough players to be highly competitive."

Rebuilding on the run
Fremantle
Essendon

"I like the Bombers. I think they can rebuild on the run and jump up quickly."

Come back in 5 years
North Melbourne
Adelaide
PAFC. Forever.

LOOK OUT, WE'RE COMING!

Sydney one rung above where I'd have them.

Freo is hard to gauge.

*They were great and terrible last year.
*Longmuir's 2nd year at the helm.
*They have the best player in the comp IMO.
*A bunch of no names giving it a red hot crack.

I like watching the improvement of Taberner and Walters each season.

So if they get 500 paying adults its a $5k return, less admin for having to ticket the game, Im not sure if this will be the cash inflow they hope

It's up and running enough to get the die-hards in, especially considering the better teams are ones that who's men's teams are going poop.

Both our clubs are the obvious/popular picks, but I’m not so sure.
Cornes’ “comeback in 5 years call” is silly. Things turn around very quickly these days.

Most definitely us.
Bottom 2 I’m thinking and I don’t agree with Cornes about being a rebuild on the fly, this is a 2-3 year rebuild.
Think it will be North v Essendon for the Jason Horne Cup :)
