Surely a long deep entry to a contest would've been better? Allow defense to press up, force stoppage and perhaps a score.

Another Kenny panic tactic, it nearly backfired with Ballard taking a strong mark 60 out, he has a great set of mittens on him.

The one decision that stood out for me was Drew's handball with 10 seconds to go. (The one all the crows fans want paid as deliberate).

Why didn't Drew just rush the point?

That lack of game awareness and calmness under pressure is a huge difference between the top sides and a side struggling to keep up with the top 10.

Re deliberate AFL umpires cues are intent (force of hand ball and where looking) and are there team mates is in the vicinity. Having just watched the vision, Drew he handballs up line not to it and it is a loopy over the top handball to clear the GC forward to where there are two Port players close calling for it. Hard to call that deliberate. Good non call by the 2020 GF umpire Craig Fleer from SA.

Pay the major and obvious

The holding by Alir technically there but if the GC forward had made it look major and obvious trying to go for the mark...

All IMO

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Or simply bring in the last touch rule like the SANFL, takes all the guess work out.
I’m tipping if that rule was in the AFL, Drew finds a teammate with that handball.

I hate last touch rule , no longer go to SANFL games because of it too many grey areas , if they want are last touch rule make it total last touch so no need for decision ie it is payed as last touch whether kick , handball , spoil , fumble then there is no grey areas and the rule is even for both sides all day
Sometimes the old guys do know whats best

What grey areas? The rule couldn’t be any clearer.

Yeah I agree...….having played last touch rule for two years now it seems to be pretty clear. We get the odd accidental soccer of the ground vs ball hitting leg which seems to confuse an ump.

Occasionally we have the it was touched before the line argument but that's no different to an out of bounds call.

In our games it happens less then 10 times....most of which are horrible shots at goal that go across the face etc.

Would be interesting at AFL level if they ended up having ball bags around the ground...….the speed of which the ball comes back can make a difference to whether a team can attack from the free or not, especially in country footy where a ball goes over the fence and we fetch ourselves vs ball hitting fence and can be picked up quickly.

Overall I like the change and hope the AFL bring it in.

Agree, bizarre comment  As AM Bays said on another thread, only debate is whether player shepherds ball near the line so it cant be touched, then would be thrown in. Any doubt thrown in. Not very hard!

Last touch rule is one of the best rules of all time.
Love it.
AFL would be mad to ignore it. Makes things so much clearer, anything that gives the umpires less discretion makes the game more consistent and it's better to watch too.
I'd go one step further too and just make it like other sports so it's last touch no matter what part of the body it comes off, not just kicks and handpasses.

Agreed 100%

I was against the rule when it first came in but happy to admit I was wrong. It speeds the game up you don’t get that many 30 plus quarters anymore I find. The afl would go well to bring the rule in.

It’s actually sad to see Robbie Grey end his carrier this way. One of our all time best but unfortunately he’s cooked. The game has past him better of getting games in to a kid.

Still got one more Showdown medal in him but you're probably right.

Probably not going to play finals so probably fair enough to let him leave on his own terms. I’m sure he will be the first to put his hand up if he feels he can longer contribute
