BnF voting should not be left to parents/ground marshalls, etc. Should always be from the coaching team.

I hate doing it from a parent/ground marshall point of view. I have no idea what the players should or should not be doing and half the time they all play similar so its a guess.

Once saw a parent put their kid as 1st best, 2nd best & 3rd best on a best players slip. Luckily it was only U11's & not an official one. It was just the coach at the time was looking for help in picking best players so would hand out 3 slips per game to parents.

Yeah we used to find that in a lot cases kids who played better than normally would always be in the votes…..I think sometimes they lost sight it was for ‘best’ and that even if they had played better than usual they needed to be in the five best players to warrant a vote

When I had a year off I was filling in for our a grade team manager for 6 or 7 weeks. I would look at the slips when they returned, if they were completely out of whack would make a note not to give that person another one.
In the Junior grades timekeeper is usually a good option as you know they are watching the game with not a lot else to do or distraction
If you don't like it, change it. If you don't want to change it, it can't be that bad!

Strange to give him 3 years if he's going backwards...good depth player though.

He'd have been one I'd have offered up for trade, he'd have currency on the market. You have to give up something to get something.

With Bergman, Bonner, Jones, Burgoyne, Houston and Dumont capable of playing across there I'd have explored options with him. Mind you, of that lot probably only Houston who now plays more midfield, Jones, Burgoyne and Dumont could play the negating role DBJ plays. Bergman and Bonner are more attacking.

HAs he gone backwards? Yes, but his high was AA and BnF in the one year so it's only the very elite who do that more than once, let alone year on year.

He's deputy vice captain, don't see him as a "depth" player.

You'd play Houston, Jones, Burgoyne and Dumont ahead of him in 2023?

In defence? Only probably Burgoyne. Houston needs to be in the midfield.

I reckon there would be a few tears in Melbourne today with DBJ signing a contract extension.
