Deliberate action after ball had left opponents possession that resulted in concussion. Exactly what the AFL want to stamp out.

I'm sick of seeing comments on social media about how the game has gone "soft". I don't think anyone without footy/sporting experience would last 2 minutes on a field and even us amateurs would struggle to take some of the legal hits/tackles for more than a quarter.

McGuire on Footy Class last night, Lloydy was talking about a kid playing in Calrton's VFL side and how he could come in to create some midfield run, McGuire said "Would they be concerned, like that kid from Fremantle who De Goey fixed up, can't remember his name, didn't get his hands up to protect himself"

The bloke is simply not there.

Love Ed but that's pretty poor.
I do agree however that he should've given the handball while turning his body.
Some players have forgotten the art of self preservation. (Without shirking it)
We were all taught how to protect ourselves as juniors, but it seems to be a lost skill now.
I know the game has sped up considerably but blokes don't seem to have an awareness of who's coming sometimes.

Watch the footage. He saw him coming but did nothing to protect himself.
It's like the players are welcoming a hit to draw a free kick. Dumb footy.

No and no.

He was looking straight at Degoey as he was preparing to handball.
Maybe I looked at the footage with my black and white glasses on?

So it is on the player with the ball to make sure they don't allow the opposition to concuss them when they have the ball to dispose? I've heard it all now.

You think?

Thankfully the majority of people weren't wearing your glasses and saw fit to suspend him.

Perhaps Degoey should have stayed on the ground and not tried to kill him.

Geez pile on blokes!!!
I know you all hate Collingwood with a passion and that's fine.
But some of your comments....like tried to kill him are ******* ridiculous.
I've acknowledged what he did by today's standards is wrong.
However, the player must expect contact in that situation and to avoid getting killed, protect himself.
Now, it wouldn't matter if a port bloke lined up a Collingwood bloke in the exact same situation, id still say the same thing.
Protect yourself at all times. He saw him coming, turn your body while giving the handball.
I've no idea how players survived in the 70's and 80's.
Oh wait yeah I do, they were taught to protect themselves in a 50/50 contest.

I hate this saying. They were thugs back than. Being tough isn't hitting someone with your fists or lining them up from 30m away. The players back then wouldn't last a quarter in todays game. They were nowhere near the fitness level needed, not to mention players are bigger now than back then (muscle mass), which also means the hit harder. Don't even get me started on the skill level. I know i've gone off topic.

Oh and Degoey should've got more
