AFL in Tasmania

Talk on the national game

AFL in Tasmania

Postby Booney » Fri Nov 18, 2022 12:06 pm

Tasmanian premier :

"I have some news to share with you all before it hits the press.

We have reached an in principal agreement on the key commercial terms to bring a Tasmanian team into the AFL.

In our colours, singing our song..."

Image

Some more work still needs to be done, but make no mistake, we will get our standalone team and finally take our rightful place in the national league.

And with the benefits this will deliver Tasmania, it's a no brainer. I'm confident we will get there.
We will get our standalone team and we will take our rightful place in the national league, because my government is committed to seeing it through.

We are committed to activating Macquarie Point as an arts, entertainment and sporting precinct with a boutique stadium – the home of the Tasmanian Devils – at its heart.
We are committed to that vision because Tasmania is on the move.
PAFC. Forever.

LOOK OUT, WE'RE COMING!

First AFL team to be named after a state not a city/town.

I went to Tassie(Hobart) in July and the locals were skeptical. Apparently there is a big north/south divide on the island. Hobart doesnt particularly like Launceston and vice versa.

A couple of guys who worked for North Hobart Fc said you need to have 6 games at York park(launceston) and 6 games at BLundestone (hobart) for it to truly work ie capture the entire states interest.

If based in Hobart Launceston people wont support and same goes for Hobartians if they based the afl club in Launceston.

INteresting times ahead.

I know the divide is real but who would have ever thought in the 80’s you would have Norwood, Sturt and North fans supporting the same team in West Lakes.

We do a stack of work in Tassie and the majority of our staff down there reckon the North/South divide is a bit of a beat up these days and that it’s nowhere near as bad as even 10 years ago.

So it's on.
I'm thinking it's great for the game.
Not necessarily the standard, (dilution of the pool) but give it time.
Next, should be an NT side if the AFL are fair dinkum.

Gonna be a nightmare for fantasy footy. Don't reckon it will be as simple as 1 team per round has a bye, there'll be 3 and 5 teams having byes in a round at times.

Just rush an NT side in at the same time.
Can't be that hard.

There’s more people in the City of Onkaparinga than in the NT
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

10 000 Max in Darwin, 5000 in Alice.

Talk of building a stadium in town to hold 30 000 tops - sound familiar??

Based on the scoping paper published last years will require $15 Million a year of government $$$ just to get it to 2021 Gold Coast turnover levels, provided there’s a new stadium….

All this while we can’t fund recruit Nurses and teachers for remote communities, so people gravitate to the major centres and crime is going through the roof

The 20th team will be from WA, IMO.

More chance of the Daicos boys playing for Carlton than an NT team being the 20th AFL franchise.
