Brownlow Medal 2024

Postby Lightning McQueen » Mon Sep 23, 2024 8:38 am

Well it's that day again where I become an expert on the Brownlow after viewing 14 games in their entirety for the season trying to jag a couple of multi's.

Who wins? Around late July I thought the Bont was a big shoe in but now I'm not quite convinced. I'll look at some teams bets during the day but I've gone an F4 @ $31's. Cripps, Daicos, Neale, Bont.

Merrett will get the most for us by the length of the Flemington straight and will most likely finish top 6 IMO

Remember when people would win with 20 votes. Now it seems you need 30 to finish top 10. Half the voting cards are filled in before the game with the big name players. Umpires are bagged all year about how incompetent they are but we still get them to pick the best players. They can barely umpire the game or instructed by the AFL to do it a certain way, perhaps votes are the same?

I don't think they are too far off the mark each season, yeah there are some "clangers" but we don't know what was said on the field.

I would say that each umpire would mark down probably a top 5 each quarter in order and then work some sort of tally out at the end of the game together, it does make it hard when there are 4 different opinions, I've had my fair share of disagreements when there's only been two of us.

Umpires see the game from inside out whereas we see the game from outside in, it's a very different perspective, I have no qualms with the Brownlow being decided by the umpires, there are enough alternative awards for players to win from various sources of judging.
