Friday night Footy has been on at 8:30pm for as long as I can remember, except for Crows or Power games. I thought Ch 7 were heaps better than 9 with their Footy coverage. Mainly the commentary and liked how they showed replays straight after a goal and then went to an ad instead of going straight to the ad like 9 use to do.

Not a bad game. Robertson's goal in the 2nd quarter was sensational!

2 points to make here 1.how do you tell a footy mad 8 yr old who won my work footy tips last season and was keen as mustard to back it up again this season that he has to go to bed at halftime because its already 10 oclock ffs they want to promote the game to young people but an 8:30 start is a joke afl and c7 you have sold us out to the dollar

 point 2 how good was robbos goal will be hard to top that . we may have seen goal of the year in the season opener 8)

I noticed this too but was left wondering one thing - there seemed an awfully long time between the goal umpire's signal and the centre bounce, given that they had a replay with special comment and then a COUPLE of ads. I'll be interested when I'm a spectator at the ground to see how long the field umpire is waiting for the "ad over" light to flash.

Went to the G last night for a look, not a bad game. Melbourne looked great for the first qrt and very ordinary after that, the Saints work rate and tackling won them the game.

It didn't seem to be any different from any other game that I've attended.
7 & 10 did fork out a fair bit for the rights so they're probably(?) within their rights
to stick in an ad or two.
That's why I watched the replay on Foxsports.

*sigh* *imagine how the Sainters would've gone in the previous five years if they had a decent coach like they had last night*

I'm sad to see so many people supporting Telstra/Foxtel by signing up after they pirated the about to be free to air AFL replays at the last minute. That probably means even less games on free to air next year, and in 5 years you'll need a bank loan for your Foxtel subscription.

[Did you notice it did not take Telstra long to jack their allegedly "reasonable" rates for the NexGEN mobile phone service even higher? The minimum spend on my mobile plan is $20 per year.]

FOXTEL has episodes of Gunsmoke, Quincy and The Flinstones.
They get my support.

Channel 7 are the absolute pits of broadcasting. I cannot believe people would prefer them to Ch.9.

Maybe I am too casual about it but last night on 7 looked the same as what I remember last year on 9. TBH, apart from a couple of minor things and obviously the different commentators it all looks the same to me regardless of who is broadcasting.

Just great to see the footy back and I don't mind admitting I think it's great to hear Bruce commentating again.

I agree. Bruce, Dennis and Eddie are all good commentators. Strangely, the one I've gone off is Tim Lane. Seeems to believe his own press (ie. how authoritative he is) these days. He ia rampantly anti-non-Vic.
