FUTURE OF TROTS + DOGS

Both industries are seemingly fast tracking towards extinction.
Colonel MALs vision may stop the downward spiral and perhaps the
ultimate revival of these 2 codes as strong entities.

The trouble these days is location location location.
MALs theory is :
__________________________________________________________
******* If a bus or a train cant get you there, its not there *******
__________________________________________________________

We have 4 gamblers
BAYMAN from the southern suburbs
PUNKY from the west
MAL from the north
KAYEFF from the east

How many of those punters can get public transport to within a comfortable
raduis of these 2 metropolitan tracks
GLOBE DERBY
ANGLE PARK

Pretty hard no trams or trains get near there
No buses from most or all of our areas to Globe Derby
And who wants to get off a bus near Angle Park where within a 5 km raduis is a mass
proliferation of drug dealers, car thieves and prostitutes.

Colonel MALs vision
-----------------------

Relocate to Victoria Park as a dual super racing complex in conjunction with the SAJC.
Its accessable to all people from all sides of town
The youthful city workforce can drop in at thier leisure after work or as a kickoff to a night out.
A great meeting place for workers
Plenty of parking
Plenty of taxis in the area
Plenty of buses
A tram and train system in the vicinity

There is about 35 million to be spent at VP for a double sided grandstand and restructure
which will be made public very shortly.
The timing is right for the VicMALria Park super complex.

If you want proof on location here is a classic
They have been running twilight race meetings at VP in December with unprecedented
successs, marquees, corporate gatherings, massive crowds, people in the city flocked in
after work to this successful meeting and WHY ????? location location location.
They had a one off twilight meeting at Cheltenham and NOBODY turned up, the
crowds were abyssMAL compared to VP.
And why , location location location.

PS today I have no car and will catch a bus to Adelaide Oval, one bus to town,
no headaches no stress.
If I had to catch a bus to Angle Park or Globe Derby ...........

VicMALria Park is the way to go.

thats not quite right mal as if you knew which buses to catch you can get a bus to gdp its one that goes into salisbury after but i dont know the route number as for angle park there at least used to be a bus that went from town & part of its route went down the street parallel to the back straight of the dog straight (i know i caught it when i was younger & caught it from festival theatre bus stops)

as for trams & trains in the vicinity of vic park that would be a long walk to/from the victoria square for the tram & even longer walk for the train

& i live at glenelg i would think that is in the western not southern suburbs

the 224 goes to globe derby from th ecity on a saturday night but it only goes there once and leaves once at 6 & 1045 respectively. perhaps a better solution would be to run shuttles from the salisbury interchange as that is easy to get for people from all around adelaide as as it stands if your not on th e224 route then you cant get there on public transport.

Should never have moved the trots from Wayville.
A bloke I work with was amazed when he first came to Adelaide as he got in a cab and asked to be taken to the trots assuming it was close to town like all the other cities in Australia.

well i think that the 3 codes need to get together and get one SUPER COMPLEX up and running. they have a couple in victoria where they run the gallops, trots and dogs. a couple of times a year these venues race all 3 on the one day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the first time it happened there was 39 races on in total and I know BAYMAN made a suggestion to go at the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BAYMAN

i agree in that its very hard to see it happening but maybe all codes are at the stage where they have to bite the bullet and actually do something that is productive, effective for the industry, other then worry about there pay packets!!!!!

your last sentence says it all most if not ALL are more interested in themselves & than the jobs that they were/are employed to do so, at the trotts i can tell you how you can double prizemoney WITHOUT IT COSTING ANY EXTRA TO DO SO

just go back to the 2 for 1 system, ie barring for maidens (obviously) you get 2 wins per class instead of 1 win so if a race is worth $3,000 (round figures) to the winner & when you win your 2nd race in the same class you've picked up $6,000 for one class & THIS WAY IT COST NO MORE TO THE INDUSTRY but all the wise men scrapped that idea which to me defies logic especially when ALL THE PARTICIPANTS IN THE SPORT I KNOW ARE ALL FOR IT

IT IS JUST BAFFLING FROM THE POWERS AT BE AS THEY WONT LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE THAT PUT THE 'SHOW' ON & YES THEY'VE BEEN TOLD ON NUMEROUS TIMES

Still a lot of rooting around to get there by public transport for most people.
I live NE of the city I would need to catch a bus to town by 6 oclock to catch
a bus [224] to GDP and how do I get back ???/ tooooooooooo hard.
And how far to I walk from bus 1 to town to get to the 224 bus ???
How do I get to Angle park From the Ingle Farm area as well ???

Too much rooting around.
