Changes to driving tactics at the trots

Postby mal » Wed Apr 21, 2010 9:20 pm

Its happened a few times and it happened again 17/04/2010 at Globe Derby Park
Commentator Jimmy Jaques was calling race 7
The $1-40 fav was Count De christo
CDC was expected to lead and be extremely hard to beat
As the mobile scored up Jimmy said something like this :
"" Stewards have been informed by connections that Number 1 Christians Daughter will be driven for the lead""

Punters had little hope of getting an alternative bet into the race with seconds to go
CDC did not lead, was caught outside the leader and ran 4th
Christians Daughter as expected held the lead
Everyone who stood out CDC in quaddies/trifectas/quins/exactas/any2s and for the win and place got burnt

A few professional punters rated CDC an odds on chance
When asked what price it would be if unable to lead those punters said it was closer to each odds than odds on !

QUESTIONS
How long b4 a race have connections got to inform the stewards of a change of driving tactics ?
Im guessing at least 1-2 hours b4 the race ????????
Should the public be made aware ASAP of the change ?

As 4 those who got burnt on CDC, I wonder how they felt about 2 seconds b4 they started from the mobile?

spot on mal, seeing the connections of horses 'have to' tell the stewards if there is any driving tactics that will be changed surely this information HAS TO BE PASSED ON TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC & NOT 2 seconds before they let them go, yes i had conte going one out BUT had i KNOWN THIS, i would have put the winner in as well as it is now the best horse in the state

there is a definate continuation of boo boos made by the hierachy, the pole horses in so called standing start races & this & with this i think that the harness website, the unitab website, radiotab, & tabs etc should all have the facility to have this information for the punting public well in advance & while it upsets some participants if there was no wagering there would be NO TROTS
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Maybe it was Jims fault, whos to say that the stewards didnt notify jim an hour prior to the race to be announced. he prob was too busy putting on his own bets instead of doing his job

I am Ahmazed

Race 4 Port Pirie 30/4/2010
Once about 5 seconds b4 the race starts
Words to the effect
"" Connections of Ahmaz have informed stewards that they will be trying to lead."

Ahmaz a $52.40 outsider didnt the lead
Its differentiating tactic made little impact on the way the race was run, but it might of

Thats 2 races now where its happened recently
Just for the record, Im not talking out of my pocket
I have backed the winners of those 2 races, both almost at double figure odds

The winner Shaquilinger led all the way
Had Ahmaz taken it on and contributed to its defeat , then I would be talking thru my pocket !

WHAT NEXT ?
Either the whole world and the extra terrestrials from all other planets are alerted to these changes
OR
No one gets the privy info but the stewards and connections

don't worry mal i was oncourse last night & jimmy told us over the air as the score up was beginning that ''baldheadedgentleman'' would be trying to lead tonight in a change of tactics (it never even looked like leading).......now it didn't worry me as i didn't have a bet in the race however the public has to be informed with plenty of time to adjust the thoughts, markets etc etc not within seconds of the start, it makes the whole sport laughable & is another reason why the dogs are getting more & more turnover than the trots.....as for fridays race how could they think ahmaz could cross rivergum magic or doctor dillinger to start with & those two didn't find the lead either, you'd get more sense out of larry, moe & curly

sahrc get professional with this & with the ludicrous ''standing starts'' which i completely refuse to bet in as you have to guess which horse will get a decent start & which horse wont even be on the track at the start & have no chance from the outset......i'd love to know the stats on how many horses drawn on the fence (whether the front row or not) have had horses not on the track & been declared runners which have been out of business from the start ?......i think if they're going to have these starts have them as walk up starts where they are all ready on the track & just walk forward

While ur talking bout driver tactics, why wasnt it announced saturday night that Michael Smith on Ortarock would be going forward instead of its usual pattern of going back?? It only cost the horse running a place by going forward :D ;)

Maybe to satisfy trots punters, SAHRC should get Jimmy to interview all the drivers and trainers and horses (u never know, there maybe a Mr Ed out there) b4 each race to explain their driving tactics, trackwork during the week etc etc etc to help the confused punters out there to be better informed.
Dont see it as being a great problem (change in driving tactics that is), as long as the stewards are told and the drivers give their horse the best chance to finish in the highest possible placing, whats the problems?
Part of the mystique of punting is the taking into account of what drivers might or might not do, speed of the races, where your horse is in the run etc etc etc. You then make an assessment of the odds available as to which horses are VALUE and which are not.

Also just bcos someone hears Jimmy announces a change in driving tactics only seconds b4 release doesn't mean that it wasn't announced earlier in the night on course and for those listening on the radio or watching on Sky, u cant really expect them to be making these announcements regularly as they simply dont have time in between the 100 races an hour they're trying to cover.

The shammozzle continues
Paula From Gawler a couple of weeks ago was a long odds on fav
As they score up it is announced that another horse[Dillinger whatsisname] would vie from the lead from its inside draw
Result fav did not lead, and was beaten

Tonight GDP
Seconds b4 they jump in race 1 it is announced that Massarua would be driven for the lead
Too late again, it led and stuffed up all my workings out on which horses were to lead etc
Whinge ?
F....ing oath THIS TIME
Unless I get it wrong
This was a horse that was in the stewards reports not so long ago
It was asked why the horse weakened when prominent by the stewards
The reply was something like this
"" The horse struggled over the 2230m and we will attempt to drive it off the pace at distances above 1800m.""
No prob
Except tonights race was over 2230 ....

Why do I take exception
A little becoz I was somewhat ambushed with my assessments
But mostly becoz some people were privy to that info, and some of us were not

I understand this matter which is angering a few pros will be made into an issue very soon
Expect some announcement soon in the broadcasting media over this

And I backed the winner Rock The Boat in this race
But itsa matter of principle

Massarua was in an easier race and improved out of sight
Its a horse that does best in front, I guess we can now do the form from now on knowing it will be keen to lead when drawn the front line

Mal / Bayman, if you two dont have the brains to realise that Massarua was racing in far lesser company and would certainly be driven differently against weaker opposition you shouldnt call yourselves punters, honestly how can you be that stupid ????? Massarua has been racing against the best claimers on Saturday night and the drop in class was blatantly obvious - i cant believe he was 30/1 but then again if people like Mal and Bayman are so called trotting experts its no wonder he was those odds.

Do your homework fellas before getting on here and talking rubish about what is best for the industry

Just a question,

Why should you get to know what tactics each driver is using?

When backing football do you get to know the exact match ups before a game?

In betting on cricket do you get to know whether a captain will bat or bowl first if he wins the toss.

In soccer do you get to know exactly if a team will play 4-4-2 or 3-4-3

Like any Sport shouldn't tactics be part of the game and mystery.

Yes fair point "whufc" but a couple of so called experts [no names] need to be spoon fed unless a horse is a $1.20 pop   :) :)

Clearly it's a rule for punters who can't think for themselves or dont understand what GAMBLE means, but to answer your question whufc they shouldn't get to know it's a stupid rule and impossible to manage.

what we're saying if the rule is in everyone should know or at least be given the chance to know of driving tactical changes or no one should know, now david smith inFORMed stewards last night about changes in tactics for tonight (sat) & it was broadcasted on 5rph this morning, jimmy jacques mentioned it tonight a couple of times & the massarua one i was told was mentioned about 15 minutes before the race on course last night...that's is exactly what mal is on about some knew & most didn't = not a level playing field

dg, personally i don't think trainers/drivers should have to show their hands before a race but seeing that is the 'rule' every effort should be made for ALL punters to know, surely as they have room for gear changes on the harness site it wouldn't take a duckenstein to be able to put it up on the site as well ?
