ANZ Championship 2011

Round 1 tips:
2.5units - Mystics V Steel over 93.5 total goals @ $1.87 (S)
ANZ Championship 2011 Season Preview
Season Bets:
3units - Sydney Swifts Premiers @ $3.25 (SB)
1.5units - Queensland Firebirds Premiers @ $6 (S)
0.5unit - Northern Mystics Premiers @ $23 (SB)

After a successful 2010 season, where we profited +21.75units, we are back at it again in 2011. The competition just seems to get stronger and stronger and there is a number of teams that could take the title. Hopefully we can match last years effort by picking the Premiers.

The first team we look at is last years Premiers, the Adelaide Thunderbirds. The major problem facing the Thunderbirds is the premiership hangover, where over the past two seasons the premiers from the previous year have gone on to miss the finals. It won't be easy for them as they have lost their defensive pairing in Gerrard and Mentor, but they should be around the mark, it just comes down to whether they can step up and cover their losses. Next is the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic, who were runners up. No doubt they will be around the mark again but unless they can win when they travel to Aus, then they may fall short again.

The Sydney Swifts are a team who will be looking to make amends for last season disapointment. After finishing the regular season undefeated then going out in straight sets in the finals, they have some unfinished buisness. They will once again be very hard to beat and as long as they dont have a finals monkey on their back then they will be the team to beat. Another team who will challenge them will be the Melbourne Vixens. Their season derailed when they lost their centre Chokljat and now she has moved to the Steel, it will be interesting to see how they can cover the loss. Defensively they will be super strong after adding Geva Mentor to their ranks.

Three teams that will be looking to take that extra step are the Queensland Firebirds, Southern Steel and Northern Mystics. The Firebirds with what is probably the strongest goal circle, struggled early last year but then hit form and if they can put that form together all year they have a real shot at the title. The Steel have added Natasha Chokljat which is a massive bonus, but they are struggling with injuries at present. If they can get their best 7 fit, late in the season they should be coming home strong and pushing for finals, but they may just get too far behind early. The Mystics are an underperforming team, but on their day are a really good outfit. They are a high scoring team and they will mix it with the best.

The last few teams will struggle once again this year, but as always they will cause a few headaches for some teams pushing for the top 4. The West Coast Fever are too inconsistent and with them losing Madison Browne, it will not help their aspirations. The Central Pulse, although it is very hard to see them make the finals, they will take confidence out of last year when they didn't finish bottom. They have had some good wins in the pre season and they should take that into the season and put a few wins on the board. Could be the biggest improvers of 2011. The Canterbury Tactix are a young side who struggle to win the close games. Hard to see them troubling to many sides.

All the best for the season and happy punting!

Yeh sorry about that guys, ill keep the YTD from now. After Rd 6 we are +2.64units. Had a shocker to start the year, but from the last 6 bets we are 5-1 with +8.43.

The futures bets are looking pretty good. Because of the way NZ sides get their draws, the Mystics and Magic should be in the top 4, then the Firebirds who are top and undefeated look like they are nearly a sure thing for top 4, so probably leaves the Swifts and Vixens battling for the other spot. So could have 3 out of the 4.

Great stuff Smart Punting!!!

Out of 3 Premiers bets at the start of the year you have picked the GF teams...

Did they have a GF quinella market?? Would think Firebirds/Mystics would've been huge....
