2 many SA Trot meetings ?

Postby mal » Fri Sep 02, 2011 11:52 am

Is having 4 meetings a week to many in Adelaide Trots ?
From a punting perspective, for me, there are 2 many meetings now

The last 2 months have been my most disappointing punting wise for a decade
It is no coincidence this is about the same time we got the extra 4th meeting
Ive asked some of the professional and rank and file punters for their views
These are some of the opinions going around

1 The extra meeting means more form analysis
2 Have to study more tapes
3 More horses backing up
4 Form has been topsy turvey in the last few months
5 The is an opinion that with 4 meetings at GDP in 5 days that the track might be in iffy condition, particularly in the rainy season

ALL these punters Ive asked have been losing or unsuccessful in the last 2 months

GDP 2/9/2011 MEETING
7 races
6 races with no third dividend
1 race with a third dividend and its a Trotters race
52 runners are going around tonight [12 of them are trotters]
That means no third place dividends in all pacing races tonight
That is piss poor, the EW and Place punters will starve tonight, as will any 2 puntologists

TRIALS
Word being bandyied about is that the Sunday Trials have been called off for the next 3 months or so, great scott what is going on ???
To a tee, professional trial watchers have been crucified
Some of these old timers go the trials to have an edge when punting
Now they will lose this advantage
It is likely that trials will be run after the race day meetings
On Mondays this is disconcerting for some trial watchers as they actually have jobs during the week days

DOGS -TROTS
I gave away serious dog punting after a long and enjoyable association within that industry
You must remember when, all those years ago, there were less meetings, punting was easier
I used to go to trials, had less form to keep and had a distinctive edge
Nowadays theres dog meetings on 5 consecutive days in SA
I simply can not and will not keep up with form recording these days
The trots with the most recent over saturation is going the same way for me

Mal - what is you solution?

2 meetings per week - maybe a tuesday - saturday - give horses a chance to race in both to try and achieve bigger fields (well at least 8 runners for your any2) and perhaps more noms mean more races.....

or is it more adventageous for the club to race on a daily basis as there is more to gain from turnover???

genuine questions

the answer is peter 'wwt' smith, he did the same at the dogs, first the admission, race books & food went up (no problem with that except the foods gone up at least 3 times this year) then they put on more meetings like 'breakfast dogs' on a wednesday which is basically an afternoon meeting now & it apparently runs at a loss & the exact same FORMula has now happened here, they're going for the turnover instead of quality in racing, i haven't got a problem with horses backing up from saturday to monday but the 24 hour back up i think is wrong......but this is WRONG the club are ringing up trainers to put horses in mainly for the monday & tuesday meetings & i ask how fit are some of these horses ? because i know for a fact one trainer was asked to put his horses in a few weeks ago even though they were nowhere near ready, this trainer told me they were 4 weeks off trialling, so punting on these horses is like playing russian roulette

they have to get rid of it (the 4th meeting) as it stands this friday has 6 races & this saturday (the main meeting) has 7 races, it is ridiculous what is happening, the only way it'll work is if fridays become port pirie & mount gambier meetings with them alternating, they wont want to be seen as making a mistake so they wont get rid off it though just like the ''stand start'' fiasco

Why cant they can the Tuesday night meetings til there's more horses around?? Surely the Friday and Saturday night meetings are the two meetings punters like to punt on so they should have maximum fields.

i should add that peter 'wwt' smith has said a while back that he'd like to get rid off as many odds on favourites as possible, i think & recent meetings support this that the 'thinning of fields' so the meetings has made more odds on favourites than before

6 races on a Friday night 16/9/2011 meeting last night
44 horses started
The starting prices of the 6 on course favorites were
$1-40
$2-20
$1-90
$1-20
$1-26
$2-00

Im told the field sizes will be deeper in a few months time, perhaps it will work out, Im hoping it does
But , to have a Friday night meeting as we had with 44 runners is clearly not working
