EQUINE INFLUENZA

Went to Globe derby tonight and saw all the fencing that divides the horses from the general public. While its unfortunate to have these restrictions can you tell me why the security that are there are allowed to go from the stall area and move freely to the grass area.Doesnt that defeat the purpose. :?

I dont really undestand it seeing we havent had a EI case in SA, I was at Morphetville today as a horse owner and one of the best things about being an owner is going into the mounting yard to have a chat to the trainer and jock beofre and after the race....none of that could be done today, the closest we got to our horse was Level 1 of the grandstand!

mind you they are dammed if they do & dammed if they dont, because its a direction from the 'higher authorities' & at least there are meetings on & people can make a living, punt etc etc but it does seem to be a bit over the top

Spare a thought for trainers and stablehands who are caged like monkeys. They can't even have a punt, I was running bets for them.

The security guards moving around is a bit of a joke if no one else can see the horses.
Clothing can transmit the flu, but as EI isn't in SA i'm not sure of what their reasoning is..

Does this stop the SA GOVT from stopping "working dogs" from entering the state which may of worked on an infected property from entering the state? NO.

For those interested, QLD people ARE NOT INTERESTED in following the EI laws..(their GOVT is).
Floats with horses are constantly seen moving around their state and 1 person actually was caught trying to cross the NSW border.
They now face a $20000 fine or prison.

Queenslanders need to wake up and realise that just because they have major problems with diseases to produce and live stock that the rest of Australia doesn't because they just don't seem to give a shit.
