This is an old article I found in Botra News July 1981
METROPOLITAN DRIVERS FINISH TO WELL FOR PIRIE
________________________________________________________________________________
Metro drivers finished strongly to down Port Pirie drivers 12-11 to 9-7
in thier football match at Gepps Cross oval on July 19.
Our special reporter at the match said the Pirie drivers appeared to feel
the effect of thier 3 hour plus bus trip to the game.
They were only 2 points down at lemons[or rather sheries]
Captains were Les Harding[metro]and Peter Thompson[pirie] who
ensured all players were in good spirits [Tolleys]
Umpire Eddie Lidstone imperturbable in the face of references to his ancestry,
introduced some novel variations to the rules:for exapmle, dont bounce the
ball when a scrimmage occurs, just give the nearest player a free kick [brings
togetherness to umpiring]
SA BOTRA trophies to the best players went to Robert A Court [metro]
Pirie BOTRA trophies to next best players were won by Geoff Webster[metro]
and John Goodwin [pirie]
Goal of the day was from Metros rugged Doug Webster who burst from the interchange
after being fired up by coach Graham Silke, and passed brilliantly to goal ump Ross Sugars.
Runner Trevor Kelly sheperded with cool skill.
The lion of the airwaves, Fearless Fewings, preferred the safety of the commentary box
to the rigors of the ruck and was at his inventive best.
And did not mention Port Adelaide once!
All in all as KG would say- " A f-a-a-a-tastic game of fooble."
