EMAIL I HAVE SENT TO PAUL MARKS. I expect to be in the shit over this but i am already gutted and cant feel any worse than i already do. Its time someone actually stood up for the greyhounds.

HI PAUL.

As you are obviously well aware i have had to go pick up Awesome Ryles from Con Haagmans kennels last night. I have had him at John Katakasi's vet clinic today to help treat his wounds as well as prescribe him medication for obvious stress related problems. Medication he must now be on for at least 3 months.

I have spoken to several industry participants which include owners, trainers as well as current board members etc and asked for as much advice as possible.

Now i know there are guidelines we have to abide by when it comes to kenneling dogs BUT what is an owner/trainer supposed to do when they have a dog that obviously can never be kenneled as they stress themself to the point that they are continuasly hurting themselves. We tried him at our old house that incidently we lived in for 12 months and no one ever bothered to contact us about inspecting kennels etc. Even there next to our other dogs he would never settle and had to be brought inside where he obviously has thrived. Both John Katakasi and Chris Doyle have commented on just how good a condition i had him in.

The looks and comments i recieved from the general public today was just disgraceful while i was waiting outside the vet clinic. Having to explain that in our industry we are not allowed to have a greyhound inside a home yet have to have them kenneled in small kennels totally disgusted those members of the public that at first stopped me to abuse me for the condition of my dog.

Now obviously you are going to state that i have to have him kenneled to be able to nominate him to race etc but in doing so i will no longer have a dog.

I amongst alot of other people i have spoken to cant understand why there isnt a clause in the kenneling guidelines that if an owner/trainer only has the 1 greyhound that they can have that dog housed inside a home. It cant be an animal welfare issue as anyone knows a greyhound is better of inside a loving home then in a kennel block. There are so many trainers kennels that dont meet the same regulations that i am being made to adhere to yet i dont see anything happening to them . I wont ever be naming those but i do know for fact there are quite a few.

I know i have stated what has happened to my dog in other media outlets but as advised i have not once told any lies or misrepresented anyone.

There are 2 newspapers that would like to do a full story on this as they also cannot understand the rules that we have to abide by. I honestly believe the only way we can change these absurd kenneling rules is to make people aware of exactly what damage it can and has obviously done to greyhounds.

PAUL when i first got into greyhounds i honestly thought it was a decent industry, but after less than 2 years i can see the welfare of the racing greyhound is totally neglected. I have seen and heard so many things that just disgust me when it comes to greyhound racing.

I expect to lose my trainers and owners license if i show this industry in a bad light but how can any animal loving human being just sit back and do nothing when there are obvious problems when it comes to having to kennel some dogs by the very regulations we are forced to abide by. We are in fact causing animal neglect and injuries by abiding by these very rules.

I did the honest thing and advised GRSA i moved home. They rang me to inspect kennels and once again i told the truth and stated i cant kennel my dog due to him stressing and hurting himself when kenneled.

Did they care?

NOT 1 LITTLE BIT!!

i wonder if you had 'a name' & 40 dogs & 1 dog was inside for the same reason as 'awesome ryles' whether this would have happened at all.....................no way it would have
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

AFTER HAVING A GOOD TALK WITH PAUL TODAY HOPEFULLY THE PROBLEM HAS NOW BEEN SOLVED.

Now all my efforts must be directed at getting my dog back to 100% physical health whilst still working at getting his head right at the same time.

Time Patience and a hell of alot of TLC.

Paul is a nice bloke, Im sure things will get resolved.
In the end it is your decision
A Pursue the matter and your beliefs
B Think hard about this and if you love dog racing dont let this incident keep you away
C Have a break for a couple of weeks and see how you feel

There is always gunna be problems with the hierachy and trainer/owners/punters
They will never see eye to eye on every single matter [in any workplace or complex]

From my experiences, I cant agree with some things that have happened over the years
BUT
One thing Ive had from the club is very good service over the years

MAL!

The couple week break you suggested im having anyway due to the fact im letting the dog settle back into our routine plus the fact he needs a quite a few weeks just to get over his injuries and sickness.

AND YES after speaking to Paul yesterday and although i may not totally agree 100% with the kenneling regulations, they are there for a reason and NO they dont suit every single greyhound BUT in the end we have worked out a solution that will suit both myself and GRSA.

IN THE END im sure after a few weeks rest both myself and my dog will be rejuvenated and be back firing as good if not better than before.
