We happened to be up Scone way over our holidays and had time to spare. The Scone races were on so we decided to pop in and have a look.
First impressions were great. The course itself was in excellent condition. The grandstand was in the form of a 'big top' with the betting ring in the middle, food and drink on the outer part and chairs, tables and other seats overlooking the mounting yard.
Best part, it was a Tuesday meet, so it was free entry. Cans of beer were $3.50. There would've been about 40 people there which I thought was a great turn out for a Tuesday meet.
The facilities were excellent overall.
The ONLY drawback was that the location was a windtunnel. Any horse coming down the straight who provides great sectionals - it should be noted that they will be running with a gale behind them.
Well done Scone racing club, we were all very impressed!
Maybe the SAJC could take note and get some people back to the course by making it free to get in, even on Saturday.
