Time to be nostalgic, and remember some of the better bets people have had.
Last year, went back to the Hampstead Hotel for North's presentations, kicked on into the night, and remember just looking at the screen- next race happened to be Newcastle Trots, I looked at the bottom of the screen for the roughest thing in the race- Golden Thread (12) paying $42. I put $5 on it for a lark. Got talking, only noticed that with a lap to go, it was sharing the lead with the fav (GT was on the rail). I said to my mate I was on it, he declared it home, I was sceptical, but as it come off the back straight, it kicked away & went on to win comfortably. It ended up paying $61, and that's the longest priced winner I've ever backed.
Mate was training dogs, got one over from Geelong, he was a lazy dog, but went alright first up. Drew box 8 which was perfect, got some decent money on @ 8/1, he lead all the way. Unfortunately, I was a punting novice at the time, & had it e/w on the books, when I could've got $12 on the TAB. That was when they had 4 bookies at Angle Park, they'd probably only have 1 or 2 at the most
