A group of us went to Morphettville today and had an exceptionally good day.
It came to 5.15pm and the races at Moonee Valley weren't starting for another 45mins. I went to the bar and asked for a roadie. I said to the bar staff that we'd like to kick on (keep drinking) and the bar staff said that there was a bar downstairs (the Diva bar). At this point the security man wandered over and advised us that we wouldn't get in if we were wearing what I was wearing (shorts and a t-shirt, thongs). I said to him, "obviously the SAJC don't want our money" and walked off.
Previously I'd said that I couldn't work out why the SAJC wouldn't open the gates to patrons and utilise (and potentially take advantage of) that patronidge.
It astounds me that I couldn't get into a bar within the bounds of the SAJC because of my dress, given the state of finances within the racing industry in Sth Australia.
For all intents and purposes we were a captive audience looking to spend more money behind the walls of the SAJC.....yet....I'm home, drinking Pales (cheap) in the comfort of my own lounge room. I live 45 mins away from Morphettville and discussions on the way home were along the lines of "why do we bother even going".
Please SAJC, I beg you - understand why people go to the races and also understand that you have to give us a reason to go, not to make it difficult for us mug punters otherwise we'll stay home!!!
