My Morphettville experience

Postby gadj1976 » Sat Jan 02, 2010 7:30 pm

A group of us went to Morphettville today and had an exceptionally good day.

It came to 5.15pm and the races at Moonee Valley weren't starting for another 45mins. I went to the bar and asked for a roadie. I said to the bar staff that we'd like to kick on (keep drinking) and the bar staff said that there was a bar downstairs (the Diva bar). At this point the security man wandered over and advised us that we wouldn't get in if we were wearing what I was wearing (shorts and a t-shirt, thongs). I said to him, "obviously the SAJC don't want our money" and walked off.

Previously I'd said that I couldn't work out why the SAJC wouldn't open the gates to patrons and utilise (and potentially take advantage of) that patronidge.

It astounds me that I couldn't get into a bar within the bounds of the SAJC because of my dress, given the state of finances within the racing industry in Sth Australia.

For all intents and purposes we were a captive audience looking to spend more money behind the walls of the SAJC.....yet....I'm home, drinking Pales (cheap) in the comfort of my own lounge room. I live 45 mins away from Morphettville and discussions on the way home were along the lines of "why do we bother even going".

Please SAJC, I beg you - understand why people go to the races and also understand that you have to give us a reason to go, not to make it difficult for us mug punters otherwise we'll stay home!!!

should have come to globe derby tonight & bet on moonee valley & everything else running around & more importantly you could of taken your own esky in as you can do every week & as we know that's a lot cheaper than buying over the bar at the tracks

"Kinda" had a similar experience last week at the Boxing Day races mate ... Hadn't been to Morphs for a few years, but had been to Cheltenham on the same day for the last 4 or 5.

At Cheltenham, we could hang in the bar downstairs, keep drinking and bet in the other states .. But at Morphetville they just wanted the place cleared ASAP.

Wasn't a big deal to us, we just went to the Lockleys and drank and punted for several more hours, but we found it weird when there was more money to be had (presuming the likelihood of us being the only ones in that boat was extremely low) for a host that they would turn their backs on it so blatantly.

Yeah I was at Morphetville Saturday too and was surprised everyone started packing up before Moonee Valley had started.

Was a good day on the punt tho, found it funny opne bookie packed up with 2 races to go and when we went to collect from one of the other bookies they had run out of money and were just getting some more. They must have been raped and pilliged with the faves getting up most of the day everywhere.
