and as pointed out I boxed my 5 selections in a trifecta and got 4 of the first 5 past the post, didnt have the 2nd horse

Well Done.
How did the 3 of you decide what horses to put in?
How much did you spend laying off in the last leg?
Fair Effort that - $12.20, $13.50, $37.10, $13.90
Whats your Quaddie Nos. for Oaks day thursday?

we each picked 1 in each leg but 2 each in the cup

I picked Hips Dont Lie and Viewed and a mate tipped the other 2 winners, the 3rd mate didnt tip a winner but was very happy!

I came up with the strategy to Lay The Wolverine on Betfair in the last leg so if that lost we would at least make $150-, which it did so it was a extra $50- each on top of the quaddie win

Jabal Tarik was our best result, we had it going for nearly $25k but it finished 4th....wont forget the horse Annenkov for a long time! :D

A chance meeting in an Adelaide pub many years ago was the catalyst for a partnership that has netted four Melbourne Cups and a friendship like no other between Bart Cummings and Dato'Tan Chin Nam.

As the two octogenarians celebrated an historic win, they were able to reflect on their long association and the good fortune it has brought them.

A Malaysian businessman, Dato'Tan has a passion for horse racing and a passion for life.

He stayed loyal to Cummings throughout the toughest times in Bart's career when the collapse of the Cups King syndicate almost sent him to the wall.

Asked to describe their relationship, the Dato said: "For better for worse - better the devil you know than the angel you don't know.

"It's been all the way better."

Cummings decided shortly after meeting him he needed to stick by Dato'Tan.

"He was having a drink in my bar in Adelaide years ago," he said.

"We were playing two-up and he won seven times in a row.

"I thought I'd better stick with him - he's lucky."

Lucky he has been in the Cup, with Think Big in 1974 and 1975 and the most famous of all, Saintly, in 1996.

The "horse from heaven" sported the black and white checked colours of the Dato's other passion, chess, as did Viewed, who was bought out of a paddock for $50,000 by his bloodstock manager Duncan Ramage.

"I've been in racing since 1948 and I've got an eye for horses," Dato'Tan said.

"I didn't think Viewed should be more than 20-1."

He started at 40-1, with punters clamouring to back the European horses.

But no-one begrudged Cummings the historic win.

He suddenly had a lot of mates among the 100,000 people on course, but none more special than the man who described their friendship in his unique way:

"Here's to the health of your blood, the blood of your health

For it takes good health to make good blood

Here's to your very good health

Here's to me, here's to you

May we never disagree

In the event that we do

Here's to me, to hell with you."

So will they now payout on my losing Trifecta bet that had 1st, 3rd & 4th???

Inquiry threatens Melbourne Cup

THE race that stops a nation, the Melbourne Cup, is embroiled in one of its greatest controversies.

This year's runner-up, Bauer, could be stripped of his placing in the $5.65 million race, which earned the English stallion $835,000.
Racing Victoria stewards are investigating treatment given to the stayer at the Sandown quarantine centre in the week before the Cup.

It is understood the investigation is not drug-related, but the treatment could still break Australian rules of racing. If this were the case, Bauer would be disqualified.

The inquiry will not affect betting on the race. Punters who backed Bauer would not have to return winnings, nor would those who backed fourth placegetter Master O'Reilly be able to claim a dividend if he were promoted to third.

Racing Victoria chairman of stewards Terry Bailey confirmed the investigation. "We do need to clarify some issues," he said.

Bauer came to Melbourne with trainer Luca Cumani's daughter, Francesca, who supervised the horse until 12 days before the Cup, when her father arrived.

Bauer, who is part-owned by former cricketer Simon O'Donnell and businessman Terry Henderson, won the Geelong Cup on October 22 but the investigation is unrelated to that race.

Speaking from England, Mr Henderson and Mr Cumani said last night they were aware of the inquiry "but have also been advised there is no issue with the swabs taken from the horse".

"Any treatment given leading up to the Cup was done by vets appointed to the international horses by (Racing Victoria)," they said.

"We are most concerned by the investigation, but feel comfortable nothing wrong has been done at our end."

Bauer, a $21 chance, stormed home to be beaten by a nose by the Bart Cummings-trained Viewed ($41) at Flemington on November 4.

The pint-sized grey is believed to have been given treatment that, according to the rules, would have made him ineligible to contest the Cup. Mr Bailey said the connections were aware of the inquiry.

"Mr Henderson is away in the UK until December 11 and the inquiry will continue when he returns to Melbourne," he said. "The inquiry is into whether or not any rules regarding pre-race treatment of a horse have been breached.

"I want to stress all swabs from the Melbourne Cup, including Bauer's, have been cleared."

C'est La Guerre finished third. Prizemoney is paid down to 10th. Ice Chariot finished 11th.

There are probably a lot of people out there in the same boat - even more that probably had Master O'Reilly to place.... Not many would still hold their tickets though as proof..

I thought about that after I posted....... I think you would be struggling though - there would be something written into the rules as MT alerted to about stuff like this happening.... I am sure there would be a precedent anyway....

It would be like people getting stripped of gold medals 3 and 4 years down the track - I bet they don't go back and do those ones...

its almost getting like if you have a punt on the racing industry you need to wait a month to collect to make sure it wasnt drugged up etc, because we've all lost on horses/dogs who have won who have been drugged up

agree chances are slim but cause its the Cup I wouldnt be suprised if all the losing punters got together and started a class action, with enough people I reckon it could be successful
