Could the second name be something to do with "sand"? It says a foot has been known to connect with this when placing a ball, I'm wondering about a place kick?

Updated full clue:

The first name is also found in one of the World's most popular console video games, however the sport played by this person is not the same sport as the video game, although the video game was invented in my country and whilst I speak of "Paddy Power", it is not the Irish betting agency, nor am I John Madden. The 2nd name is involved in a sport akin to one of the World's most popular video games, but this persons name includes a word the human foot has been known to connect with when placing a kick, but not a kick as in an official sport, rather a kick which makes a person retort. We are two people who have had little luck in our professions, but we battle on at long odds....

Second name could be associated with the head or indeed the posterior. Daytona video game and Winterbottom springs to mind?

Retort: to make a reply.

Well it's not Mario Ancic and Blake Shinn. I'm pissed off though, because I sent the email last night, but only got the reply just then and says I have to wait until tomorrow to have another shot

You just can't have another crack at the $50, have to wait till it is $40...
