Heres a betting preview I write for Bigfooty -

Collingwood look to rebound on FNF against a wounded Roos outfit, I dont hold much hope for the Roos here coming off back to back 6 day breaks. For mine Collingwood win and win well, Ill be taking the -18.5 here.

Hawks return to the MCG to take on Carlton who will have the emotions flowing, Hawks do have a days break on the Blues here and might be a deciding factor in the 2nd half here however Im not convinced about the Hawks yet, all their key stats are well down on last year and they will have to win a game like this before I start backing them again. I expect the Blues to come out fired up and put a score on the board here early, they are also +17 points against their opponents , therefore Im taking the $1.90 for them to be leading at half time here.

The WA Derby should be a good one early with Freo up and about after a good win and a week without travel. I still rate WCE though especially at home where they are undeafeated this season with 2 impressive wins. Freo were good last week but Sydney were also very very poor, only their accurate goal kicking ekpt them in the contest. As long as the trip away didnt effect the WCE they should win this, Ill be taking the $1.72 on offer for them.

We should know more about Essendon and Brisbane after this game, I cant really split them and tempted to have a small bet on the Bombers at the line however Collingwood and Essendon do not have good records coming off the Anzac Day clash. Reckon it will be a NO BET game for me or a small punt on Essendon +14.5.

Really like Port to win the Showdown in Adelaide this Saturday night, coming off a belting they have had 8 days to think about it while Adelaide come off a 6 day break and an ordinary effort at the G last weekend. Adelaide have been beaten well twice this season after 6 day breaks and both were night games. Adelaide are only averaging 80ppg this season and that wont be enough against the Power. Im not a big fan of Port but I reckon in the right situation they can be good to punt on, this weekend is it. Take the $1.93 to win.

Geelong are very short as expected, Melbourne shouldnt get within 10 goals here and thats what the line is around the -58/60 mark, the Cats could do this in the first half. Always a bit cautious taking big lines but will be having a small investment on Geeling -58.5 here

Sydney/Richmond and Bullies/Saints are 2 NO BET game for me, unable to get a good grip on Sydney and Richmond this season - will just sit back and watch this game. Similar to the Bullies/Saints game - while Id like to have a go at the Bullies Ive got to respect the Saints, especially coming off a 9 day break. Sunday will be quiet!

Possible investments -

Collingwood -18.5
Port Win
WCE Win
Geelong -58.5
Catrlton lead at half time

Good Luck all

Great idea, let's put $10,000 on to make $200..... better than bank interest I guess.... Not for me though....

Did anyone hear about the peanut that put $40 000 on Collingwood @ $1.01 with 3 minutes to go in last weeks game against the Bombers. I know the Pies SHOULD have won from that position but who would risk that sort of money for $400 profit?

Punter splurges on Cats

May 3, 2009

A PUNTER has splurged $500,000 on Geelong to beat Melbourne at the MCG today.

The Cats were raging favourites at $1.05 to win, meaning the punter stands to win $25,000 by risking half a million.

Sportsbet reported last night that Geelong had firmed to $1.01, and the punter will be hoping the Cats can reprise their most recent result against the Demons, when they ran out 116-point winners.

My multi for the round was Collingwood win, Sydney win and Cats 40+.

IT WAS a punting weekend when the big boys came to play with some serious cash transactions. It all began with a $500,000 outlay on Geelong with Sportsbet in Darwin at an agreed price of $1.05.

The bet was placed at 10am on Saturday morning, meaning the punter collected $25,000 in just over 30 hours, which beats anything available in world finance.

It is just a matter of having the nerve to deal with the prospect of losing half a million.

A different punter also liked the Blue and White, parting with $100,000 at $1.92 at Sportsbet, with Geelong needing to win by more than 58.5 points (the margin was 43).

And a TAB Sportsbet punter got it right the other way around when he had $40,000 on Melbourne at $2 to get within 58.5 points.

From the same match, but on a different theme, was the astute gentleman who had $15,000 with Eskander Betstar at $1.75 about the Demons "winning" the wooden spoon.

"They will be into $1.50 with us and while they weren't terrible, there doesn't appear too many challenges other than maybe North Melbourne," Alan Eskander said.

"The whole weekend was actually a disaster for us with all the multies through Collingwood, Brisbane and Sydney.

"We took a double of $20,000 on Brisbane into Sydney at $2.90 and the only respite for us was Fremantle, but even they were backed to get within the points (8.5)."

Gerard Daffy of SportsAlive said bookmakers were particularly unhappy with the goalkicking efforts of Carlton's Brendan Fevola and Sydney's Barry Hall.

"All the late money was for Hawthorn so a Fevola goal would have been huge for us," Daffy said.

"And Hall's wobbly goal just before the final siren meant Sydney won by 19 points, beating the line of 17.5 points."

A TAB Sportsbet punter got it right when he had $20,000 on Fremantle at $2.35 to upset West Coast. Brave but clever.

Looking to the future was a Sportsbet football lover with money who had $5000 on Brisbane Lion Daniel Rich at $4 to win the NAB Rising Star.

"He appears as mature as any of the candidates and wins enough of his own ball and disposes of it well enough to ensure he will be right there at the end of the season," Phil Hannah of Sportsbet said.

"Really, the weekend began badly when punters declared Collingwood morals and backed them from $1.45 into $1.30.

"They were crunched all around the country, as was Port Adelaide in the South Australian Derby."

Geelong continues to dominate flag betting, with TAB Sportsbet now having the Cats into even money, ahead of Hawthorn and St Kilda, who are around the $4.80 mark.

Collingwood is into $13 after doing what it was expected to do to a North Melbourne team that is struggling.

Punters do not want anything to do with the Kangaroos after whispers during the week that coach Dean Laidley and his playing group are not as happy as they once were.

Some of the best betting in the AFL during the past month has been in the Coleman Medal, with Hawthorn's Jarryd Roughead now equal favourite at $2.75 with Sportsbet, with Fevola after starting the year as much as $20 in some markets.

"Roughead would be a bad mistake for bookmakers after word leaked out over the pre-season that Hawthorn was going to play him closer to goal," Hannah said.
