NM should be the favourites

Please explain?

Brisbane on a 6 day break and travel....NM 7 day break and no travel

There are such things as "trap" bets - bets that look good on hte surface but underneath not so flash - bookies love them

there are also bets called 'good bets'. When an average team plays a sh1t team. And the average team wins.

Punters cleaning up on the Brisbane Lions
Jon Anderson | June 01, 2009 12:00am

PUNTERS have started to enjoy the ride with Michael Voss and his rampaging Brisbane Lions. Brisbane was smashed in betting markets around Australia on Saturday, firming from $1.80 to $1.60 with TAB Sportsbet.

In what has been typical of the betting year, punters are identifying one or two teams each week as being over the odds, and this week it was Brisbane and the Western Bulldogs.

On Brisbane, Sportingbet Australia took bets of $25,000 at $1.80 and $15,000 at $1.75, Sportsbet in Darwin an even $100,000 at $1.73 and $60,000 at $1.81 and Flemington Sportsbet $10,000 at $1.75.

That's serious and furious action and it doesn't stop there.

There was a TAB Sportsbet double of $15,000 at $2.65 on Brisbane and the Dogs, plus a number of $10,000 and $5000 bets on the Lions straight out.

The only relief for the bagmen was the wins of Richmond and, to a lesser extent, Adelaide, with Geelong and St Kilda taken to win by more than their respective lines.

TAB Sportsbet has found a St Kilda fancier much in the mould of Catman, the punter placing $75,000 on the Saints at $1.08 to win $6000.

TAB Sportsbet's Trent Langskaill reported that Cat Joel Selwood is a big mover in the Brownlow Medal market, firming from $10 to $8.

"And you have to remember he polled 19 votes last year," Langskaill said.

On the subject of medals, Brisbane's Daniel Rich continues to firm for the Rising Star award.

"I watch a fair bit of football and he's clearly the best kid I've seen this year," Norm Short of Flemington Sportsbet said. "I'm not saying he will be the best player three years down the track, but right now he should be an even-money chance."

Alan Eskander of Betstar also reports some spirited Rising Star action.

"We took bets of $1000 on Andy Otten (Crows) at $13, and he's now into $6 after another really good week," he said. "There was a further $1000 on Stephen Hill (Dockers) at $15, $1000 on Jarryn Geary (Saints) at $15 and $500 on Brendan Whitecross (Hawks) at $26.

"Punters probably got slightly the better of us on the weekend with Adelaide being well backed as the Hawks eased from $1.60 out to $1.69.

"We took $3000 on a multi at $6.75 about Adelaide, Geelong to win by more than 34.5 points and Collingwood. Mitch Morton did the right thing for us in Freo, otherwise it would have been ugly."

Phil Hannah of Sportsbet said punters had their eyes in for most of the weekend.

"There was $100,000 on St Kilda at $1.11, $30,000 on them at $1.09, $15,000 on Richmond at $2.62 and $50,000 at $1.59 about Carlton, St Kilda and Geelong winning."

At TAB Sportsbet there was $15,000 for the Dockers at $1.30 just after the quarter-time siren.

"The Bulldogs-Sydney game was possibly the most interesting from a betting viewpoint, with the Dogs easy during the week when there were doubts about Higgins and Gilbee, blowing from $1.60 to $1.65 before firming right back in to $1.55," Langskaill said.

"There was also plenty of money in the Collingwood-Port Adelaide game with $30,000 on Port at $1.90 to get within 13.5 points. And there was $30,000 on the Crows at $1.90 to get within 8.5 points."

And then there was the punter who likes a dabble on the red clay of Roland Garros, parting with $50,000 after declaring Novak Djokovic a good thing at $1.05 against Phillip Kohlscheiber.

Ouch.

It's about maximising win with minimum investment Dutchy.

Every Friday night I put several multis of about $5 looking to win between $200 and $500.

We don't all have the splash to smash $100 bets @ $1.92 to make a profit.

Understand that, but thats what bookies love, blokes throwing $5- $10- on multis that have little chance of hitting

Not saying you have to bet $100, do the same bets but do them individually, not multis

$10- on Blues 40+ @ $2.80 = $18 profit
$10 on Bullies 40+ @ $4.00 = $30 profit
$10 on Lions 40+ @ $6.00 = $10 loss

$30 invested $68 returned = $38 profit

Nice carton of beer out of the weekends work

He has done all the hard work in getting 2 nice priced winners up but what did he get from it? A donation to the TAB...if you still like your multis still whack a dollar or two on them
