A few years ago in the Melbourne cup a Godolphin runner lead the whole race until being over run in the last 100m. He had run the rail the whole way around but the ground was firmer out from the rail and he got over run. Was very disappointed - the race in number 7 on the card so the jockey ought to have learned a bit from the previous 6 races. Dont think it was Dettori - was the other jockey prior to McEvoy from memory.

AG - see http://www.godolphin.com/win_notable_ind.asp?nhid=7 - think it may have been Central Park being over run by Rogan Josh. ???

AG is right, when you are talking about the horse that was run down by ethereal using the firmer track in the straight, central park getting beaten by rogan josh id dettori's only placing in the melbourne cup to date.

Dutchy wrote:Matt Nielsen rode our horse at Cheltenham one Saturday and it was 2 lengths ahead with 50m to go, looked over his right shoulder and saw no horses coming so stopped whiping only for a Hayes horse to come up the inside and beat us by a nose...he didnt see it coming

Can remember a young Cherie Buchiw doing the same thing on Buffalo Power at Victoria Park. Stopped riding with 50m to go and at the last minute saw a flash down the outside and started riding for dear life, all to no avail...Cant recall the name of the horse that won?? Terry McCaulife was spewing.

I have also seen Shane Dye do the same but manage to hold on just on a horse in Sydney a few years back.

Rosslyn Dodd dropped her hands on Jet Cutter in a race at Port Lincoln years ago. Ronny Papps couldnt believe it when Red Herring flew and picked it up in the last 20. *Allegedly*, she was rooting the trainer Johny (Brad Pitt) Francis!

Shane Dye is resposible for one of the best rides I have ever seen.... Air Seattle in the Qld Derby drew an outside barrier and he deliberatly missed the kick and shot to the rails.... ended up behind the leader and pushed out on the turn.... drawing away in a soft win.... pure genius......... lacks a bit of confidence old Billy Idol!

What about the pumpers ride on Inaflurry in the Caulfield Cup a few years back where he bolted to the lead with a mile to go and never even fronted a stewards enquiry...then he followed that ride with a shocker on Diatribe in the Melbourne Cup the year after...
